New living at the old Leipzig train station: 1,000 apartments in planning!
Pieschen, Deutschland - A controversial construction project takes on forms: The old Leipzig train station in Dresden could soon become the new residential location. Up to 1,000 apartments are under discussion, while 75 percent of the total area are intended for mixing buildings. This development is considered a key to meet the growing living space requirement in the city. The results of a planning study that illuminates the potential and restrictions of the area were presented at the end of March in the non-public part of the city council committee, as Pieschen-aktuell reported.
The placement of the old Leipzig train station offers the possibility for a well thought -out residential development, also sees Thomas Löser of the Greens, who is optimistic about future development. But not all of them agree with the previous progress. Uwe Sochor from the Allianz for Dresden demands an end to the constant back and forth and wants to clarify the future of the area.
complex property conditions
The planning of the area also contains challenges. The areas of the old Leipzig station belong to twelve different property owners, whose development intentions sometimes vary greatly. The website of the city of Dresden emphasizes that communication and cooperation are a prerequisite for a successful implementation of the ambitious development goals. The state capital itself does not have its own space at the location, which also complicates the situation.
A comprehensive urban planning concept is in progress and is intended to reconcile the various demands of the owners, the city administration and civil society. The cooperative process aims to achieve a coherent result that is borne by many, as the city of Dresden explains. This also includes an active participation procedure that integrates politics, owners and citizens at an early stage.
course of the planning and outlook
As the current information show, the design of the master plan 786.1 is now in the city council committees for advice. Particular attention is paid to the variant without a globe market, the development plan of which is still controversial. Vincent Drews from the SPD positively evaluates the results of the expert report and hopes for soon decisions that could pave the way for an attractive place to live.
The next crucial steps have already been scheduled: A meeting of the Environment Committee is on April 23, followed by a possible decision by the building committee on April 25. Here the foundation could be laid for the future development of the old Leipzig train station.
