In just a few weeks Dresden will become a special place of spirituality and gathering whenPilgrimage service in the Holy Yeartakes place. OnSunday, June 22, 2025, to7:30 p.mBishop Heinrich Timmerevers will support the believing community in theDresden Cathedralat the cross icon of the diocese's pilgrim cross. This is an invitation to pause for a moment and embark on your own journey of faith, not only for the members of the Dresden-Meißen diocese, but for everyone who is interested.

The service promises to be a festive experience. Young people from the come-and-see course will take part and the process is designed to be inspiring, based on the evening prayer times of the Franciscans of San Damiano in Assisi. The diocese of Dresden-Meißen announces meditative songs, spiritual impulses and times of silence and worship. A wonderful opportunity to calm down your inner self and experience moments of faith together.

The Holy Year 2025 and its meaning

The Holy Year is a tradition of the Catholic Church that is proclaimed every 25 years by the respective Pope. In 2023, the Holy Year was under the motto “Pilgrim of Hope”. For many believers, it is a valuable opportunity to rediscover their own spirituality and connect with others. In addition to the pilgrimage service in Dresden, there are numerous events and offers, such as special masses and pilgrimages in other dioceses that have the motto “Pilgrims of Hope”, for example in the diocese of Aachen.

Regular masses take place in Aachen on the first Saturday of every month. Eucharistic Adoration is also offered there at set times. There are a variety of offers that help believers to accompany themselves spiritually during the Holy Year.

Accompanying materials for the pilgrims

There are numerous resources available to those who wish to intensify their path of spirituality during the Holy Year. The Action platform for the Holy Year refers to materials provided by the Catholic Bible Works e. V. and the Bible Pastoral Working Group of the Diocese of Würzburg. These include reading sheets and exercise books that make it easier for believers to experience the Bible as a living source of their relationship with God.

Auxiliary Bishop Rolf Lohmann sees these offers as an opportunity to deepen one's relationship with the Bible using a simple method, Lectio Divina. All that is needed is the joy of reading and the curiosity of discovery.

The invitation to walk the spiritual path in the Holy Year is a rich offer for the community and an opportunity to reflect on what is essential. Whether at the pilgrimage service or by using the materials provided, everyone is warmly invited to become a part of this special year.
