Alcohol and drugs: chaos on the streets around Pirna!

When you cycle or drive through the streets in the area, it is sometimes impossible to avoid stumbling across the latest news from the last few days. In Lohmen, a 72-year-old cyclist caused a stir when he was stopped by the police with a blood alcohol level of 1.8 per mille. Although he fell slightly and refused help, the investigation against him for drunk driving and insults continues. Unfortunately, these incidents are not uncommon. Sächsische.de reports that many traffic offenses are linked to alcohol and drugs.

Another worrying incident in Wilsdruff: A 19-year-old driver was stopped while under the influence of amphetamines. Such attacks shed light on how important it is to increase road safety and take consistent action against such violations. Bavarian traffic police has found that traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol and drugs are one of the main causes of serious accidents.

Alcohol consumption and road safety

The statistics are alarming: in 2020, Bavaria recorded 4,463 accidents that were caused by alcohol. A majority of these accidents often happen to young drivers.

At a time when distraction from smartphones and other devices is increasing, the influence of substances is often underestimated. The traffic police regularly hold events to raise awareness among younger road users and educate them about the dangers. Especially training in secondary schools aim to draw attention to the dangers.

But it's not just in traffic that things go haywire. Not far from Pirna, a 37-year-old Bulgarian was arrested at the Breitenau border crossing. He had several arrest warrants for forgery of documents and administrative offenses that brought him to the Dresden JVA. Such attacks contribute to an uneasy sense of security in the region.

Further incidents and security situation

There was also a risky incident in Freital. An 18-year-old was injured in Freital-Wurgwitz by an accidental shot from a compressed air weapon. The owner of this weapon now has to answer for negligent bodily harm.

A serious accident in which an 81-year-old motorcyclist was slightly injured also occurred in the region. The trace of diesel that contributed to the accident once again brings to mind the discussion about road safety.

Break-ins and thefts also make life difficult for citizens: garden furniture worth 1,100 euros was stolen in Pirna and aluminum pipes worth around 1,400 euros were stolen in Dohna. This shows the logic and ruthlessness of the perpetrators, who often strike.

Overall, it is clear that despite the efforts of the police and traffic guards to ensure order and safety on our streets, various crimes and traffic accidents are the order of the day. Police have pointed out that such incidents also have a significant impact on the overall security situation.
