Good morning, Dresden! Several garbage cans burn again during the night!
On the night of Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Dresden had to contend with several fires in and around garbage cans. The Neustadt and the city center were particularly affected, where the fire brigade carried out numerous operations throughout the night. The emergency services were on site with a total of 22 firefighters from the Albertstadt and Altstadt fire and rescue stations. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The first fire occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on Antonstrasse in Neustadt, where a dumpster burned to its full extent. The fire department was able to quickly extinguish the fire with water. There was a homeless man nearby, but he was uninjured. The police decided to expel him. There was no significant material damage.
Several missions early in the morning
The second fire was registered at around 4:23 a.m. on the corner of Metzer Strasse and Hauptstrasse, not far from the Neustädter Markthalle. Here, three 240-liter garbage cans were on fire. Thanks to a quick intervention by the fire brigade, who were on the scene with a jet pipe, the fire was extinguished before surrounding buildings were endangered. However, a street lamp and another garbage can were damaged.
But that's not all: In the city center, directly on Schössergasse, a small pile of paper burned in front of two paper collection containers. Here too, the emergency services had to intervene. In addition, a burning paper bin in front of the Crystal Palace on St. Petersburger Strasse had to be extinguished. The fire department used a thermal imaging camera to locate and control embers.
Fire brigade operations and investigations
The police are currently leaving it open whether the fires are connected to each other or whether there is a possible connection to similar incidents in recent weeks. An investigation is underway in all directions, but it is currently unclear whether there is a specific cause for these fires.
It is also interesting that in general the fire statistics in Germany often have gaps because there is no uniform recording of these events. According to information from FeuerTrutz, more precise data could help improve fire protection. In this context, regular updates and collection of statistics for fire services and fire protection are important in order to develop effective measures to fight fires and to increase safety for citizens. FeuerTrutz regularly provides information about relevant statistics and developments in fire protection.
It remains to be hoped that such incidents can be minimized in the future and that the fire brigade remains well prepared. The emergency services therefore make an indispensable contribution to protecting the population.
