Thief destroys construction site on Rudolf-Bergander-Ring – 4,500 euros in damage!
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, an incident occurred in Dresden-Strehlen that stirred emotions in the region. Unknown perpetrators struck at a construction site on Rudolf-Bergander-Ring and stole valuable construction machinery and tools. The police report damage of around 4,500 euros caused by the theft. Among the items stolen were a vibrating plate, an excavator shovel and a ladder.
The thieves' approach was extremely simple but effective: they opened a fence and thus gained unhindered access to the premises. This once again shows the vulnerability of construction sites, which are often only rudimentarily secured. According to BauWatch, 80% of those responsible on construction sites in Germany have to deal with theft at least once a year. An alarming trend that doesn't stop in Dresden either.
Focus on safety on construction sites
The current study by BauWatch found that many construction site managers are noticing an increase in crime on their construction sites. Two thirds of those surveyed said the security situation would have worsened in 2023. This is a serious problem because crime on construction sites can not only lead to financial losses, but can also significantly impact the schedule of construction projects. In almost a quarter of cases there are delays of up to four weeks.
Experts warn that safety on construction sites is often viewed as a “low priority”. More than half of those surveyed call for improved planning of safety measures before construction begins. Recommended measures include visible security measures such as camera towers and fences, as well as regular training for employees.
The dark side of the construction industry
The theft of construction machinery and tools is not only expensive for the companies affected. In Germany, construction site crime causes over 80 million euros in damage every year. Copper and cables are particularly popular objects for thieves, which poses additional challenges for those responsible for construction sites. According to the study, theft alone caused damage to German railways amounting to 7 million euros last year.
The Polizeiticker platform is also concerned about the increasing numbers of thefts and vandalism on construction sites. The online portal provides information about current events and offers those affected the opportunity to find out about preventative measures and get in touch with the local security authorities.
With the increasing number of thefts and growing insecurity on construction sites, it is more important than ever to take targeted measures to increase the level of security and protect construction companies' valuable resources. The investigation into the incident at Rudolf-Bergander-Ring is ongoing and the police are hoping for information from the public to find the perpetrators.
