Important traffic adjustments: Nights closed in Dresden-Laubegast!
From Monday, August 11, 2025, drivers in Dresden-Laubegast will have to adapt to new traffic regulations. The intersection of Österreicher Straße/Leubener Straße will no longer be passable at night. This measure means the end of the previous traffic opening between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. and represents a significant change, as the intersection was previously only fully closed during the day. The reason for this is the comprehensive renovation of the Wehlener Straße/Alttolkewitz/Österreicher Straße traffic line, which has been in full swing since March 2024 and covers a total of 1.9 kilometers. Tag24 reports that ...
The renovation work is comprehensive and does not just concern Österreicher Strasse. In order to continue to ensure local public transport (ÖPNV), the transport companies will prepare suitable diversion routes. These diversions are important in order to provide passengers with the most seamless connection possible, even during the construction period.
Changes in public transport offerings
In addition to the night-time closure, various changes to Dresden public transport will also take effect from Monday, August 11th. From 4 a.m., lines 4 and 9 will be affected: They will swap their eastern terminus, which will change the route. Tram line 6 will run a shortened route between Wölfnitz and Schillerplatz. This means that bus route 86 will also be rerouted and stops will have to be adjusted for both trams and buses. DVB has published current information on this.
An additional stop will be set up in Tolkewitz to make it easier to transfer between tram lines and alternative services. These changes are not only a response to the construction work, but also an opportunity to improve connections in the region in the long term.
Financial support for infrastructure
There is good news for the urgently needed measures to renovate and improve the infrastructure in Dresden: Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG is receiving funding from the federal and state governments amounting to around 14 million euros. These funds come from the Municipal Transport Financing Act (GVFG). Saxony's Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport reports that ...
The funds will be used to renew the existing line network and the traction power supply and also include measures such as the expansion of the Fetscherplatz stop to make it suitable for the light rail system and important renovation work on Österreicher Straße. This is a further step towards making public transport in Dresden future-proof and ensuring the mobility of citizens.
With the upcoming changes in traffic routing and the ongoing renovation work in Dresden, city traffic will continue to be challenged, while at the same time the course is being laid for a modern and efficient traffic infrastructure.
