Fire devil is up to mischief: car completely burnt out in Blankenburg!
On the night of Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the police in Blankenburg (Harz district) were called to an operation that had dire consequences. At around 12:40 a.m., alert witnesses discovered a burning car on Westerhäsuer Strasse. What started as a nighttime mystery ended in a total loss. The VW was completely destroyed by the flames, and a Skoda that was parked nearby was not unscathed. The estimated total damage is around 20,000 euros, as Tag24 reports.
Another alarming example of arson occurred in Sarstedt (Hildesheim district). There were several vehicle fires there on the same night, which the police also called into action. Residents reported an explosion and saw the flames spreading to other cars. A car that had already been damaged was affected again. The police have started an investigation and are looking for witnesses who can provide information. According to n-tv there is also suspicion of arson here.
A worrying development
The increasing number of vehicle arsons casts a worrying light on safety in our cities. In Berlin alone, around 750 vehicles became victims of arson in 2024, a significant increase compared to previous years, in which there were just over 570 cases each. What is particularly frightening is that only a small proportion of these acts are politically motivated. The majority, around 429 cases, can be traced back to vandalism, insurance fraud or personal reasons, as can be seen from the data from rbb24.
The police were able to identify perpetrators in a limited number of cases. But the number of unreported cases could be alarmingly high, as many arson cases go undetected. The fact that some vehicles were “collaterally affected” also shows how easy it is to get caught up in this vortex of destruction. Of the 750 fires in Berlin, 243 cars were also affected by the heat or the spread of the flames.
Looking for answers
The investigations in Blankenburg and Sarstedt are still in their early stages, and the clarification of these cases will become more important in the coming days. Citizens are urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. This is the only way to track down the “Fire Devil” and prevent further escalation. It remains to be seen whether the work of an arsonist was observed in Blankenburg that night - the police are grateful for any information.
