Silent victim: event for modern slavery in Mylau!

In the coming week, an important topic will be placed on the agenda at the Mylau Castle: On June 3 at 7.30 p.m., an event with the title "Slavery - Today?" instead of. This meeting is organized by the Futurum Vogtland association, which deals with the current situation of human trafficking and exploitation. Annika Riewesell from the Caro Association Plauen is an interlocutor of the event. It will be exciting, because the topic affects all of us, whether we want to admit it or not.

Background of this event is the alarming fact that modern slavery is not only a horror scenario of the past, but still affects millions of people today. According to the Global Slavery Index, around 50 million people were victims of slavery worldwide in 2021, with almost 28 million in forced labor and forced to live. It is particularly impressive that the number of those affected has increased by a total of 10 million since 2016. The reasons for this include climate change, conflicts, migration movements and the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the Federal Center for Political Education [bpb.de] (https://www.bpb.de/kurz-knapp/intergrund-aktuell/211147/internationaler-ag-erung-- and-dessen-abchaufung/) highlighted.

A look at the story

Humanity has spoken out against slavery at certain times, but reality often looks different. While slavery was legally banned in many countries up to the 19th century, today we are still fighting against their modern forms that look very different. The dependence on people viewed as ownership of others is shown in numerous areas - from the forced laborers to the debt bonding. The transatlantic slave trade, which began in the 16th century and lasted until the 19th century, has also left deep traces in history by capturing millions of people from Africa. Brazil is still one of the main goals for enslaved people.

The causes of modern slavery are complex and complex. Climate change and political conflicts increase the number of people who are in such conditions. Migrants without papers are particularly at risk because they often end in precarious employment relationships. Up to 152 million children are in child labor worldwide, often under slavery -like conditions, and that makes it clear: the topic is far from being abolished.

a call for discussion

With the event on June 3, a awareness of these problems is to be created. "Slavery - today?" is more than just one title, it is a call to deal with the injustices that prevail in our time. With this platform, the Futurum Vogtland association not only offers a place for discussion, but also the opportunity to find solutions and ways of how we can become active as a society. The event could make an important contribution to a topic that often falls under the table but urgently demands attention.

We cordially invite all interested parties to come to the historic council of Mylau on June 3 at 7.30 p.m. Let us talk about the challenges that we all approach. There is no better time than now to take a step in the right direction and to work for the well -being of people who are in need.
