Major fire in Dresden suburb: Fire brigade fights with flames!

As of today, the focus in Dresden is on a major fire in an empty train station building in the Leipzig suburb. A dangerous fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, but was brought under control thanks to careful measures by the fire department. Around 45 firefighters are currently on duty, supported by a drone squadron, to monitor the situation as best as possible. On the site of the Old Leipzig Train Station, where the fire broke out, the property is heavily overgrown and the building is even in danger of collapsing, which makes extinguishing work considerably more difficult, as MDR reports.

The fire brigade is struggling with a particular challenge: extinguishing fires is only possible from the outside and the use of turntable ladders is extremely complicated. Nevertheless, the radiance of the fire was interrupted and the spread of the flames was stopped, according to fire department spokesman Michael Klahre. The extinguishing work is expected to last until the afternoon hours, and a follow-up inspection of the fire site is planned for the evening. A warning about heavy smoke, which initially applied to residents within a 1,000 meter radius, was lifted late in the morning because the smoke had subsided significantly.

No danger to residents and the surrounding area

The fire department reassures residents: there is no immediate danger from a neighboring gas station area. In addition, another fire on Eisenbahnstrasse, just a few meters away, was quickly extinguished. However, only rubbish burned in another empty building. The police have already started to investigate the cause of the fire and fire investigators are on site to collect more detailed information, as can be read on n-tv.

The situation surrounding the causes of fires in Germany is complex. According to the Institute for Loss Prevention and Loss Research, there is a lack of comprehensive and uniform fire statistics that could help improve fire protection. A compilation of current statistics and data could therefore be of great benefit to cities and communities in order to better prevent fires in empty buildings like this in the future, according to FeuerTrutz.

For the fire department and investigators, the focus is now on clarifying the cause of the fire, while the residents can breathe a sigh of relief; At least for the time being the danger appears to be averted. Nevertheless, the situation remains tense and the extinguishing work remains in the hands of the emergency services, who act with a good hand.
