Loud protest in Dresden: Rave demo against AfD youth foundation!

On Saturday evening, September 15, 2025, Dresden Neustadt was transformed into a place of lively protest. Around 200 participants gathered in Alaunpark to demonstrate against the planned establishment of a new AfD youth organization. Organized by supporters of the alliance Resist, the group came together with a clear goal: to draw attention to the founding of the AfD youth and to block the party conference in Giessen through civil disobedience.

The protest march began around 5 p.m. and led along the main street to the Elbwiesen, where a final rally finally took place. Accompanied by loudspeakers and lively party music, people marched through the streets in a good mood. At the outset, an Antifa bloc of around 40 people formed who demanded: “Freedom for all political prisoners.” This demand was particularly important in the context of the nationwide day of action for imprisoned anti-fascists, which took place on September 13th.

Diversity of participants

The demonstrators were colorfully dressed and some wore bright neon yellow high-visibility vests, a symbol that played a central role in the alliance's previous actions. What was particularly striking was the uniformity with which the participants expressed their rejection of the AfD. The police confirmed that the meeting went smoothly and that there were no special incidents, which underlines the peaceful nature of the event.

In the background are concerns about the AfD itself: the former youth organization, the “Junge Alternative”, dissolved at the end of March 2025 and was classified as right-wing extremist. A new association should and will now be more closely linked to the AfD.

Focus on civil disobedience

The protest in Dresden is not the first time that citizens have risen against the AfD's growing influence. As early as January 2025, numerous people demonstrated in Riesa against the party's federal party conference. The protest was supported by a broad alliance of trade unions and civil society organizations, which said: Unopen aimed at disrupting the party conference.

Civil disobedience is often described as a non-violent way to protest against what is politically and morally questionable. Historical examples, such as the civil rights movement in the USA, show that such resistance has deeper roots in democracy and is viewed as a legitimate means of defending human rights. These considerations are not only important locally, but also resonate in a larger social context, where dealing with right-wing extremist tendencies is becoming increasingly important.

In Dresden, the activists not only rely on loud voices, but also on creative forms of expression such as banners and music to carry and clarify their message to the world: The fight against right-wing extremism and for an open society is more necessary than ever.
