Devastating fire ruins Dresden State Operetta – allegations against the city!

A devastating fire reduced the former state operetta in Dresden to rubble and ashes on Saturday night. As upday reports, the fire brigade fought the flames with all their might from Friday evening to Saturday morning. There was also support from the Technical Relief Agency and a drone squadron from the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, who were able to provide important information with thermal imaging. The rear part of the complex, where the auditorium was located, collapsed and the main building is no longer accessible due to the risk of collapse.

City spokesman Daniel Heine confirmed that the area was repeatedly the target of vandalism. The citizens' initiative “Alte Operette – Leuben Liven” has already pointed out the situation several times in the past and is now making allegations against the city administration, which was informed about the problems on the area. Although the city has taken some measures to secure and maintain the building, a 24-hour security guard was deployed after the fire to prevent further damage. The amount of damage is still being determined by experts, but the police estimate the loss at a six to seven-figure amount.

Fire in a high-rise building: tragic consequences

MDR reported, the emergency services had to deal with a completely different emergency. Two 87-year-old pensioners lost their lives in hospital despite resuscitation measures. A 78-year-old woman was injured by falling debris and a total of three people were taken to hospital.

A large number of firefighters were on site to extinguish the fire and had to close the surrounding streets. Around 40 tenants had to leave their apartments and found temporary accommodation in a warming bus. The fire investigators are already in the building and are investigating the possible causes of the fire.

Security situation and challenges

It becomes clear again and again that the topic of fire protection is becoming increasingly important in Germany. As some statistics show, there is a lack of comprehensive, consistent data on fires, which affects the effectiveness of safety measures. Information about this can be found at FeuerTrutz. These statistics are important to prevent future fires and ensure the safety of citizens.

In a city that is repeatedly affected by vandalism and unsafe buildings, it is high time to set the course for more security. The fire in the state operetta and the tragic incident in the high-rise building are alarming examples that not only make the emergency services but also the city administration responsible.
