Dresden band boys enchant 1,000 children with Bach's journey through time!

An exciting weekend is coming: On June 15th and 16th, 2025, the Dresden Kapellknaben will perform together with the cathedral children's choir in the gymnasium of the Dresden Benno-Gymnasium. The interactive musical “Bach's Time Travel” will be shown, which is all about the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Over 1,000 children are expected to be spectators - a fantastic number that will fuel the anticipation for the performances even further.

Particular attention is paid to the family concert on Sunday, which begins at 4 p.m., as well as the school-internal concerts on Monday, which take place at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. The intended target group is also broad: families, children and adults can look forward to exciting insights into Bach's life and his music. The rehearsal period for the around 40 girls and boys who ventured onto the stage was six weeks - intensive preparation for this big performance.

The content of the musical

The plot of the musical is truly imaginative: Johann Sebastian Bach lands in Dresden in 2025 during a choir rehearsal and captivates the audience with well-known melodies from the Christmas Oratorio, the Brandenburg Concertos and the St. John Passion. The musical arrangement comes from Moritz Kube and cathedral music director Christian J. Bonath, who work on the project with great sensitivity and commitment.

An important goal of the event is to bring the world of classical music closer to the young generation and encourage them to sing. In a school year with many highlights, including the performance of the St. John Passion and the Christmas Oratorio, the Dresden Kapellknaben want to inspire both today's offspring and tomorrow's successors.

High demand and registration

The registration numbers for the school concerts are extremely encouraging. In fact, some classes have already had to be canceled due to high demand. Interested teachers can register their school classes by email to nachwachsen@kapellknaben.de. In order to maintain this momentum in the singing, helpful teaching materials and audio examples were provided for the students to intensify their learning.

The Dresden Kapellknaben have a tradition going back over 300 years and are one of the most outstanding boys' choirs in Germany. Every year new talents are accepted into the concert choir; This year, for example, twelve boys from the fourth grade. It is a constant process that shows how important it is to support young musicians.

The family concert on June 15th is free and offers a wonderful opportunity to go on a musical journey through time with the family. It will be exciting to see how the young talents will give their best on stage and inspire the audience with their joy of singing. The choir not only remains active during rehearsals, but also conveys the joy of music that lasts for generations - a valuable cultural asset that should be left in the long term.
