Dresden Marathon 2023: Record number of participants and exciting innovations!
The countdown is on for the 25th Dresden Marathon, which will conquer the city on October 26, 2023. An unbeatable event that aims to break the previous record of participants this year. Up from 9,200 last year, up to 12,000 sports enthusiasts could register - an increase that is causing great anticipation. Sächsische.de reports that the reporting figures are up to 60 percent higher than in the same period last year.
For the first time, Claus Lippmann and Sebastian Zehe will take over the organization, which could give the event a breath of fresh air. In addition, the route has to be changed slightly due to the premature demolition of the Carola Bridge. The very special highlight is the home straight, which ends directly in the Heinz Steyer Stadium. The atmosphere is pre-programmed here and there is nothing better than crossing the finish line in the stadium.
A variety of events and a large supporting program
But the marathon is not just for experienced runners - there is also something on offer for the little ones. The day before there will be a 5 km run, as well as children's and bambini runs. The whole weekend will be rounded off with an anniversary party on Friday evening, which will be a happy start to the marathon weekend for all participants and spectators.
The price structure for participants is flexible: until January 5, 2025, the entry fee is 65 euros and will gradually increase until late registration on the day of the event, which is 99 euros. Of course, the prices include VAT. Dresden Marathon.com informed that a collection service for starting documents is also offered as long as written authorization is available.
Germany's marathon stronghold
Marathons are a big trend in Germany. Over 131 marathons were held in 2023 alone. This shows how popular this supreme discipline is in endurance sports. Over 50,000 runners sometimes take part in the largest marathon events, such as the Berlin Marathon or New York Marathon. Statista records that running and jogging are among the most frequently practiced sports and that more and more people are exercising regularly. Broken down to smaller events, such as the Dresden Marathon, the organizers are still pleased with the surprisingly high number of participants, which speaks for the enthusiasm for sports among the people of Dresden.
With Hendrik Pfeifer, the fourth fastest marathon runner in Germany, taking part in the half marathon, new best times can also be expected in this category. Pfeifer has already set a personal best of 62:05 minutes at the half marathon in Dresden. The challenge of breaking the course record of 62:27 minutes looms over the run-up to the marathon.
The event not only promises top sporting achievements, but also great cooperation between running enthusiasts across all age groups and ability levels. The Dresden Marathon will once again be a celebration of running in our beautiful city.
