Drama in Dresden-Gorbitz: Cellar fire injures over ten people!

In Dresden-Gorbitz there was a dramatic house fire on Harthaer Straße on Monday, October 13, 2025. The fire broke out in the basement of an apartment building around 2 p.m. and led to thick smoke, which could already be observed when the fire department arrived. Calls for help were received via emergency calls from residents who had pointed out the emergency situation. The fire department was able to respond quickly with a large contingent: around 100 emergency services from the fire department, rescue service, police and emergency pastoral care were on site to take care of the situation. This reports MDR.

The basement fire not only caused the building to become heavily sooted, but also made some apartments uninhabitable. The home's electrical system sustained significant damage. Although the fire brigade was able to quickly rescue two residents, many people took the opportunity to get themselves to safety. Unfortunately, a man's attempt to escape from the third floor ended tragically: he jumped out of the window and injured himself.

Injuries and effects

A total of 28 people were affected and had to be medically examined. Among the injured were two children who were taken to hospital because of suspected smoke poisoning. Ten other people needed urgent medical attention. Due to the massive health concerns, a mass casualty alert (MANV) has been issued to ensure medical attention is reached day24 reported.

In order to accommodate the affected residents as quickly as possible, the owner of the house took care of repairs and alternative accommodation. The residents were accommodated in a Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) bus while Harthaer Straße remained closed to traffic. Residents were asked to avoid the scene as much as possible.

This incident has once again shown how important the rapid response ability of emergency services and mutual aid are in crisis situations. When incidents like this occur, it quickly becomes clear how vulnerable the community is and that every help counts. The fire brigade showed a good hand here and really acted courageously to prevent anything worse from happening.
