Housing benefit position moves to Striesen: Now under one roof!

Junghansstraße 2, 01309 Dresden, Deutschland - In Dresden there is an important change that affects the citizens in the coming week. On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the housing benefit office moves to the social welfare office at Junghansstraße 2 in Striesen. The previous location at Ferdinandplatz 1–2 will be closed on Friday, June 13, 2025. This means that the employees of the housing benefit office, which consists of 35 people, are available to be much more pleasant working conditions from next week, since the new building offers space for all 92 employees. This change has become necessary because the housing benefit department has grown greatly due to the 2023 residential deformity and new teams have now been set up.

To make the move properly, the last information and consultations will take place at the old location on Thursday, June 12th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. So if you still have any questions or would like to be advised, you should take the time before the doors of Ferdinandplatz close.

residential angular reform and digital application

The residential godform, which came into force on January 1, 2023, resulted in an increase in applications. More and more households with low incomes can now hope for higher support. The federal government expects the number of beneficiaries to triple. The new prosperity program ensures that working people, pensioners, trainees without training allowances and students without BAföG are also entitled.

A particularly practical plus brings digital change with it: Since January 1, 2023, tenants have been able to submit their housing benefit entirely online to the Dresden Social Welfare Office. The use of the new online assistant is child's play and the application can be filled in and sent paperlessly. This digital support has a positive effect on the processing times and is barrier -free, so that even people with disabilities can benefit from it. If you are not yet familiar with the online offer, you can find out comprehensive information on the homepage of the state capital at www.dresden.de/wohngeld

housing benefit for all

The housing benefit itself serves as state performance for households that are tenants, homeowners or residents. The amount of the support is determined individually, so that every applicant can be given the help he is entitled to. Citizens who already receive housing benefit don't have to worry; For you, the increased housing benefit and the heating cost grant will be recalculated automatically. However, the payment is expected to start before the end of February 2023.

In order to be able to continue working effectively and in the future, the city administration of Dresden is planning to hire 90 additional employees. This measure is intended to ensure that the housing benefit office can do justice to its diverse tasks in the coming months and years and that the citizens are at the side of Dresden.

On the whole, the merger of the housing benefit office and the digital processing of applications brings new life into the services of our city. It will be interesting to see how the changes are accepted - it remains exciting in Dresden.
