Traffic jam alarm at Pentecost: This is how you can master the traffic chaos in Saxony!

The Whitsun holidays are just around the corner, and for many Germans that means: on the streets! But be careful, there is a risk of traffic jams, especially in Saxony. As meidresden.de reports, the traffic forecasts for the long weekend coming up on June 8th and 9th, 2025 will be characterized by a significant volume of traffic. The main impact of traffic congestion is expected from Friday afternoon, June 6th, with slow traffic also expected on Saturday morning and Monday afternoon.

The situation is further exacerbated by construction sites and road closures on important highways. The A4 is particularly affected, where restrictions are expected between the Dresden-Altstadt exit and the Nossen triangle until the end of the year. The A4 therefore remains a bottleneck in the region, especially on the sections towards Chemnitz and Görlitz. Complete closures are also announced on various federal roads, such as the B171 in Marienberg or the B180 in Lugau/Erdmannsdorf.

What travelers have to prepare for

The dense traffic situation not only affects Saxony, but also affects numerous motorways throughout Germany. According to current information from swp.de, the A1, A3, A5, A7, A8 and A9, among others, are at risk of traffic jams. Travelers going on vacation or visiting family should be prepared for longer travel times, especially on the access roads to popular travel destinations such as the North Sea and Baltic Sea as well as large cities such as Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

For a relaxed travel flow, the ADAC recommends starting on Thursday morning, June 5th, or setting off very early on Saturday. The return journey on Whit Monday could be smoother than on Tuesday, which is also prone to traffic jams. The start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg on June 10th will also result in increased traffic.

Additional traffic information

The traffic situation is also complicated by special construction sites and traffic obstructions in Brenner regional sections. Waiting times are to be expected here, especially due to renovation work on important bridges that only allow one lane in each direction. Even during this time, longer traffic jams cannot be ruled out due to intensive controls at the borders with Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

It will be crowded on the streets outside Dresden and beyond. In order to make the journey as stress-free as possible, drivers should check current traffic reports and, if necessary, take alternative routes. As stau1.de points out, there are already numerous reports of traffic jams and traffic disruptions on the motorways. A little patience and forward planning can make all the difference.

With this in mind: Have a safe trip and reach your destination safely!
