Construction work in Johannstadt: Hans-Grundig-Straße becomes a one-way street!

Starting next week, it will be uncomfortable on the streets in Johannstadt, a district of Dresden. Comprehensive construction work to renew the district heating system on Hans-Grundig-Straße will begin on June 16th. SachsenEnergie has taken on the project and will repair the dilapidated underground chambers. Walls, ceiling panels and supports are being refreshed to ensure the supply of district heating to residents. The construction costs amount to around 350,000 euros and completion is scheduled for October. Hans-Grundig-Straße between Dürerstraße and Holbeinstraße will be declared a one-way street during the work, which represents a new challenge, especially for car traffic. The district heating tunnel extends from the SachsenEnergie central depot on Fabrikstrasse over the tracks to Zwickauer Strasse. Traffic restrictions are inevitable and a one-way pedestrian route will also be set up. The road width will be reduced to seven meters, but both lanes will remain. DNN informs that ...

District heating supply in Dresden

Does this all mean a better future on one of the central issues of our time? Definitely! The district heating system is an efficient technology that not only provides heat, but is also more environmentally friendly. Around 3,800 district heating networks in Germany serve around 14% of households, which amounts to around six million apartments. Around 1.2 million buildings are already connected to such a network and over 30% of the heat comes from renewable energy. This shows that we are on the right track to further expand this climate-friendly concept and make our cities more environmentally friendly. The coming months will be accompanied by some restrictions for Dresden, but the investments in the infrastructure are important for the future of district heating supply and the energy industry framework. With federal funding of up to 3 billion euros until 2026, a large part of the invested funds will be absorbed in order to further expand and modernize this important area. In the end, not only the environment will benefit from these measures, but also the citizens themselves, who can thus make a contribution to the energy transition.
