The time has come: the summer holidays in Saxony will start in exactly one week, and like every year, this will cause traffic chaos on the streets around Dresden. The ADAC has already warned urgently that traffic jam hotspots will force drivers to be patient. The A4 in particular could become a nightmare for many travelers.
In particular, the construction site area on the A4 between Dresden's old town and the Nossen triangle should be avoided these days. Backlogs can quickly form there due to ongoing work. Due to ongoing construction work, the diversion route via Wilsdruff is also less suitable for a carefree start to your holiday.
Forecasts and traffic jam risks
According to the experts, the highest traffic jams in Saxony are expected on the A4 and A72. But it's not just these highways that are affected: over 150 kilometers of routes in the Free State are considered particularly vulnerable to traffic jams. In addition to the local construction sites, international traffic restrictions also mean that things could get tight. Long waiting times are also predicted at the A17 border crossing.
On the Czech side, more precisely on the D8, extensive tunnel repairs have been taking place since April 1st. These works lead to additional restrictions and should also be taken into account by travelers. Drivers who want to set off for the Czech Republic from Dresden are well advised to find out about the current traffic situation.
