Dresden is becoming a cinema mile: film nights on the banks of the Elbe start in 2025!

There is great anticipation in Dresden, because the film nights on the banks of the Elbe are returning in 2025! From June 19th to August 24th, film and music fans have the opportunity to gather in one of the largest open-air cinemas in Europe and enjoy a varied program. A colorful spectacle awaits guests here - over 200,000 visitors are expected to transform the Elbe meadows between the Carola and Augustus Bridges into an open-air cinema that not only offers blockbusters, but also arthouse highlights. Since 1991, the Film Nights have been not only the largest open-air cinema and culture festival in Dresden, but also in the whole of Germany, as filmnaechte-festival.de highlights.

In total, over 90 films will be shown over the 67 days of the event, including many family-friendly films such as “Paddington in Peru”, “The Wild Robot” and “Garfield”. There are 37 films on offer especially for younger viewers, most of which can be seen in the afternoon or early evening. The family cinema offers around 1,500 seats. A midnight cinema is also organized where classics such as “The Big Lebowski” can be seen. A very special dress code applies here: Anyone who shows up in a bathrobe will receive a free White Russian – a special highlight for film-loving night owls!

Cinema and concerts

The film nights on the banks of the Elbe are not only known for their films, but also for the first-class live concerts. On the cultural stage, guests can expect national and international artists who will delight visitors with music from the fields of rock, pop, singer-songwriters and classical music. In recent years, greats such as Bob Dylan, Snoop Dogg and Rammstein have performed. Exciting acts are also on the program in 2025 - including Ski Aggu on June 20th, Nina Chuba on June 21st and the Fantastischen Vier on July 12th. Up to 12,000 standing places are available for the concerts for extensive celebrations.

Another reason to be happy is the technical equipment of the event. The largest mobile screen in the world, the CINESTAGE2016 with an impressive projection area of 448 m², ensures brilliant image quality. Together with a beam steering loudspeaker system and digital double projection, this offers a cinema experience that is second to none. Visitors can look forward to not only experiencing films, but also a diverse cultural program. This includes cabaret, interactive formats and free holiday events for children.

A unique experience

The event area directly opposite the Brühlsche Terrasse, Frauenkirche and Semperoper has a capacity of 3,800 seats in the cinema, of which up to 800 seats have also been covered since 2019. All cinematic adventures are therefore well taken care of. Numerous premieres, film classics and special offers as part of the festival, such as short films, also await visitors. Francis is just one of many stage names that are already generating excitement for the upcoming film nights.

A highlight for all Dresden residents is the humming sight of the film nights in the middle of the beautiful Elbe landscape. It will be exciting to see how the festival develops in 2025, but one thing is certain: the film nights on the banks of the Elbe are a fixture in Dresden's cultural landscape and enjoy great popularity every year. Don't miss this spectacle!
