On July 14, 2025, the police in Dresden published some interesting reports that concern both local security and the general development of violence. An incident in Seestadt shows that the issue of violent crime continues to concern our everyday lives.

The flood of violence in Germany

Statistics show that although violent crime accounts for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, it has a significant impact on the population's sense of security. In 2024 there were loud noises Statista around 217,000 violent crimes were registered, the highest number since 2007. A look at the previous years shows that a low of around 165,000 cases was reached in 2021 during the corona pandemic, and the numbers have risen again since then.

A survey from May 2024 confirmed that 94% of citizens consider violence against police and emergency services to be a major problem. In addition to economic uncertainty and social stress, risk factors are also discussed among those seeking protection when it comes to possible causes for this increase.

Current incidents and their clarification

Another report from Berlin, which is not directly connected to Dresden, reveals a similar problem. On the afternoon of July 14th, a 39-year-old man was the victim of an attack in Münsinger Park in Spandau in which he suffered stab wounds. A member of a group of three stabbed him twice in the leg and the perpetrators then fled with two of the victim's cell phones. Alerted police forces provided first aid while the Criminal Investigation Department Directorate 2 (West) is now investigating for aggravated robbery.

In view of these incidents, the question remains as to how the security authorities will continue to combat increasing numbers of violent crimes. It certainly requires an intensive examination of social conditions in order to find long-term solutions and strengthen citizens' sense of security.
