World record attempt: Plauen woman runs 342 km without sleep!

Things will be exciting in the coming week: Plauen extreme hiker Christin Ziehr is planning a world record attempt on June 17th that could cause a stir. The plan is to cover 342 kilometers from Berlin to Plauen in less than 72 hours. The previous record, set by another hiking enthusiast, is 302 kilometers. Ziehr has set the bar pretty high.

How is she going to get through this? With cola and lots of exercise to stay awake. She planned her sleep phases well in advance. According to her, the first night will be relatively easy, while on the second night she has to expect hallucinations and a short period of sleep while walking. The third night, however, should go better again. But that's not the only challenge she faces - Ziehr has covered over 8,000 training kilometers in the last few months in order to be optimally prepared.

Sporting successes and ambitious plans

The 37-year-old is no stranger to sports. She recently claimed the title of World Champion at the Ultra Hiking World Championships and already has an impressive competition calendar in the pipeline for 2024. She plans to complete the 171-kilometer Cologne Path on June 28, 2024. She would like to significantly undercut the specified 48 hours.

Ziehr has proven her endurance with a long list of sporting successes. From a 100 km march around Frankfurt in 2022 to her current performance at the World Walking Championships in September 2023, where she came 12th as the best woman. Her longest tour took place in May 2022, when she covered 270 kilometers around Lake Constance in 55 hours and 15 minutes - a real masterpiece! Her exercise routine varies, but on normal days she runs at least 35,000 steps and does office work on a treadmill, all with a six-year-old son named Mats.

A new way of life

Christin Ziehr only started extreme hikes in September 2021, after a personal life crisis following a 17-year relationship. She has supplemented her training as an IT specialist and geriatric nurse with various management qualifications and now heads the nursing service “Nursing with Heart” with 28 employees. In her free time, she also volunteers in the care network and professional association, showing her passion for caring for and supporting those around her.

With her great ambition and a good knack for planning, Christin Ziehr could become the new record holder. On June 17th, fingers crossed for the Plauen athlete, whose achievements not only inspire us, but also show that human will can move mountains. We're excited to see if she can complete the 342 kilometers without sleep and in record time!
