An exciting weekend is coming up for the handball fans in Plauen! On Saturday, September 3rd, 2025, at 5 p.m., the handball regional league team HC Unit Plauen will welcome the second team of ThSV Eisenach at the start of the 2025/26 league season. This encounter will be particularly emotional for Joel Maxim Stegner, as the Eisenach native played for ThSV Eisenach for 14 years and will now meet many old companions.

"It's great to compete against my former teammates. We spent many years together at ThSV and the memories are already coming back to everyone," admits the 21-year-old Stegner. This encounter is more than just a game; it also symbolizes the transition into a new phase of his career at HC Unit Plauen.

A reunion of old friends

The game will be watched by many friends and former teammates, which should create a special atmosphere. Stegner already had the opportunity to attend a ThSV Eisenach reunion at the end of last year. On this evening, twelve former young players met in the “Sophienaue” hotel to exchange memories and reflect on their time at the club, which ended four years ago. Coach Uwe Seidel welcomed his former protégés, which also included players such as Felix Cech and Max Schlotzhauer, who are currently active in both Plauen and Eisenach.

The players talked about the many joint training sessions, challenges and successes that they had experienced as part of ThSV Eisenech. Some of those present are now focusing on training or studying and have scaled back their handball activities, while others are still active on the field.

Looking forward to the start of the season

This Saturday will show how Stegner and his new teammates at HC Unit Plauen can start the season. "I know that the training work in Plauen is good. We have the right spirit and I'm looking forward to being able to show my performance," explains a motivated Stegner. The duel against ThSV Eisenach II could become the benchmark for the upcoming games in the regional league.

Although the focus is on the game, there is always the anticipation of meeting old friends. “I can hardly wait to see the ball rolling again and hit the boys – that makes the game even more intense,” concludes Stegner.
