Criticism of Plauen's outdoor pools: Planned opening further postponed!

In Plauen the outdoor pool feeling in the fresh air is still missing. While numerous outdoor pools in the surrounding area have already opened their doors for the 2025 swimming season, sun worshipers in Plauen are still looking into the tube. This weekend, which marks the start of the swimming season for many, the weather doesn't seem to want to cooperate, which is why the opening of the Plauen outdoor pools has been postponed again. Pool manager Ronny Adler was able to confirm that the pools are ready and the water is filled, but proper cooling down is still a long time coming. The planned start for the “Naddel” outdoor pool in Preißelpöhl was scheduled for mid-May and had to be postponed due to the weather. The outdoor swimming pool in Haselbrunn should also have opened at Pentecost, but in this case too the weather got in the way.

In the middle of this wait, there is definitely good news for the outdoor pools in Plauen. As the Top city reports, the outdoor swimming pool in Preißelpöhl has undergone extensive modernization. This includes a renovated children's pool, new diving strips and additional energy efficient improvements. A new water play frog was installed especially for the little bathers, so that the children's area is now designed in a contemporary and safe manner. The popular classic, the outdoor pool fries, will also return and will particularly please young visitors.

Opening times and entrance fees

The opening times for the outdoor pools are set until June 6th: The outdoor pool in Preißelpöhl is open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. From June 7th to August 10th, brine lovers can go swimming every day between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., although longer opening times are planned when temperatures are high. Admission prices remain stable, so combination tickets for the Preißelpöhl, Haselbrunn outdoor pools and the city pool are offered for 99 euros (adults) and 60 euros (children).

But beyond Plauen, there is also a growing discussion at the national level regarding the future of outdoor pools. As the Time reports, the German swimming pool landscape is facing major challenges. Many outdoor swimming pools suffer from a significant renovation backlog. One report estimates this traffic jam at around 4.5 billion euros. The pool alliance is committed to maintaining and modernizing pools, which is becoming increasingly urgent in times of climate change and heat waves. There is currently a lack of around 2,500 lifeguards in Germany, which further complicates the situation.

Looking into the future

So not only modernization but also structural changes await the outdoor pools in Plauen. Concepts for future-proof outdoor pools even include the introduction of retractable roofs and a combination with indoor pools. In addition, there are considerations to develop new offerings such as spray parks and usable fountains that should enrich inner cities. The desire to bathe will certainly continue to change in the coming years and will be adapted to the needs of bathing visitors.

The wait for the outdoor pool to open in Plauen remains exciting. It remains to be seen whether the weather obstacles can be overcome soon. A hot summer would be good business for the city and pool lovers!
