Hannah from Oelsnitz: Best of her year with 1.0 – Now to America!

A shining star has appeared in the sky of education: Hannah Fineiß from Großfriesen completed her Abitur at the Julius-Mosen-Gymnasium Oelsnitz with the dream grade of 1.0, making her the best student in her school's year. This outstanding achievement is not only viewed with pride in her home country, the Vogtland, but also represents a personal triumph for the 18-year-old, who assesses her time at school as consistently positive. She particularly emphasizes the family character of her school, because she believes this not only strengthened the level of learning, but also created a pleasant atmosphere. Hannah always felt comfortable and motivated in the community.

But Hannah not only achieved excellent results, but also had remarkable projects in science. With her impressive 60-page work on calculating mathematical models, the 18-year-old even came first in the “BeLL Prix” at Chemnitz University of Technology. Her math teacher recommended that she work on a special learning achievement (BeLL) instead of a normal technical paper. Hannah also achieved regional victory in the 2022 “Jugend forscht” competition format and qualified for the state competition, where she took third place. Her achievements prove that she is not just a math whiz, but a real all-rounder.

Versatile talents

Hannah is characterized by extraordinary talents: not only is she a talented swimmer at the sports high school in Chemnitz, but she also plays the trombone and has also acquired the DELF French certificate. This versatility shows that she has a good hand in different areas.

What are the next steps for the young academic? After a planned Interrail trip with friends, Hannah would like to start studying mathematics in Heidelberg. Another notable step that fits well with her career to date and will continue to bring her talents into focus in the future.

Abitur – An important educational path

The Abitur is the highest school qualification in Germany and enables access to universities or equivalent colleges. In 2022, around 259,300 high school graduates were counted nationwide. However, the general conditions can vary from state to state. For example, some students in Germany take their exams after 12 years, while in other federal states it takes 13 years. The central Abitur also only applies to certain subjects such as mathematics, German, English and French, while different grading regulations can influence the comparability of the Abitur grades, which has become noticeable in recent years.

With her birth in the educational landscape, Hannah Fineiß not only achieved personal success, but also created an inspiration for many students in Vogtland. Your achievements are one. A great example of the opportunities that graduating from school can offer – one step closer to realizing your dreams.
