Xenon is investing 3.5 million euros and celebrating 35 years of innovation in Dresden!

In a welcome turnaround, the Dresden-based automation specialist Xenon announced an impressive expansion project in the Coschütz-Gittersee industrial area on June 2, 2025. With an investment of 3.5 million euros, two new production halls and an office wing will be built. This coincides with the 35th anniversary of the company, which emerged from the Robotron combine in 1990.

Under the leadership of managing directors such as Tobias Reissmann and Hartmut Freitag, the company remains stable despite challenging economic conditions. Long-term orders ensure that the business remains on a solid footing even in times of economic downturns and crises in the automotive industry. Internationality is also part of the recipe for success: parts of the production facilities are manufactured in Mexico and China, among others.

New perspectives in the hydrogen economy

A significant step this year is the deeper collaboration with Omron Electronics in the area of hydrogen technologies. Together, the companies are developing modern assembly processes for fuel cell and electrolyzer stacks. The aim of this cooperation is to transfer production from manual to automated form, which can significantly increase efficiency. The so-called high-speed stacking technology, which was jointly developed by Xenon and Omron, has already successfully completed the proof-of-concept phase.

This new technology, which is available for preliminary testing and tests at the headquarters in Dresden, enables precise and rapid handling of the components, which is crucial for the efficiency, performance and service life of the fuel cells. Stacks that convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity or split water into hydrogen and oxygen play a central role in the hydrogen economy.

After the new production halls with an area of 1,750 square meters are scheduled to be completed at the end of 2025, the Xenon Innovation Center will also create space for further developments: The Fraunhofer Institute will move into the new premises, while at the same time there will be space for innovative projects.

Sustainability in focus

However, Xenon's commitment goes beyond technical development. The company relies on a sustainable energy supply for the newly built plants. The new building will be heated by heat pumps, and a solar system will cover 20 to 25 percent of the electricity requirements. This is in line with the growing need for sustainable technologies, which is also supported by numerous Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft initiatives. Among other things, these strive for the transition to circular recycling systems in order to conserve resources and promote sustainability.

The news of Xenon's steady growth and the continued relevance of its technologies is a positive sign for the market and the region, which may see even greater focus on the hydrogen economy and sustainable technologies in the coming years.
