Tanzquelle Elbflorenz: Elena Cencetti makes children shine!
Dresden celebrates the diversity of dance with the committed dancer Elena Cencetti, who founded the “Tanzquelle Elbflorenz” in 2025. The talented artist from Florence has settled in the city and is bringing a breath of fresh air to the dance scene. In her studio on Liststrasse she offers a wide range of dance courses for children and young people, showing how important movement and expression are for the development of young people. Their offerings range from children's ballet to early dance education to improvisational dance.
But what makes Cencetti’s approach so special? She places great emphasis on technique, which she considers the foundation for every dancer. It not only promotes body awareness, but also creative expression, which is essential in today's fast-paced world. Children are given the opportunity to develop not only in dance but also personally.
Accept intercultural challenges
Another exciting project that Cencetti is planning are intercultural events in Italian and German. These are intended not only to promote language development, but also to strengthen cultural exchange. The idea behind it is to raise awareness of bilingualism while bringing the community closer together. There are currently still free places in their courses for 4 to 6 year olds and primary school children who are waiting to be discovered.
In addition, the “Tanzquelle Elbflorenz” is also used by the “Tango24” dance school, which further increases the synergies in the Dresden dance landscape. The basic idea is to provide a space for different age groups and abilities to try out the art form of dance. This is reminiscent of the ChanceTanz initiative, which promotes local projects for children and young people in order to design creative processes through professional dance educators. The focus here is on active participation, which further stimulates learning in the community. ActionDance reports on various projects that are specifically developed for young people in social or financial risk situations.
Dancing as an educational opportunity
According to the 2020 national education report, there are various risk situations that form an important basis for such projects. These include, among other things, the social risk situation due to parental unemployment or low family income. The projects under ChanceTanz aim to overcome these challenges and open up new perspectives for the participants. Age-appropriate groups and the involvement of parents through workshops and presentations not only promote a sense of community, but also the individual expression of each participant.
Cencetti and her colleagues reflect a future-oriented dance pedagogy through their work. They represent a concept that includes both improvisation and creativity and focuses on the potential of the participants. The approach aims to ensure that all participants - despite their different backgrounds - are inclusively included and can increase their engagement. This is supported by suggestions for reflection and the integration of different dance styles. The Doepfer Academy offers extensive modules that are specifically designed for this purpose.
The “Tanzquelle Elbflorenz” and the various cooperating projects make a valuable contribution to promoting young talent in Dresden. We can look forward to seeing what creative fruits this initiative will bear in the coming months and years.
