Find out how security measures and events in Dresdner Neustadt on June 8, 2025 are supported by residents and authorities.

Neustadt safety in focus: Walk with City Councilor Hartl!
Security in Dresden Neustadt is the focus of a public walk organized by the Neustadt SPD. Around 30 interested citizens took part in this event, which was accompanied by City Councilor Julia Hartl. Hartl reported on recent improvements such as the newly installed lighting in Alaunpark, which now illuminates a 300 meter long section between Bischofsweg and Tannenstrasse. The planning of additional lighting, which will cover the playground up to Paulstrasse, also met with a positive response.
A particularly important topic was Martin-Luther-Platz. The fountain at the Luther Church is being renovated and a drinking fountain will be installed in the fall. In addition, a standpipe with a water connection is planned for residents, which will certainly help to improve the quality of life. Nevertheless, the noise at Lutherplatz is giving residents headaches. A night mediation team was deployed to resolve conflicts in this area.
Crime in focus
Crime in the Neustadt is also causing increasing concern. According to police reports, two crime hotspots have been eliminated, but Albertplatz remains a problem child. Here, traders complain that they are often harassed or even threatened by young people. Julia Hartl has therefore demanded that the real estate company Vonovia provide better outdoor facilities at Albertplatz. However, there is one bright spot: the so-called “skewed corner” has calmed down over the past year and there are fewer problems than before. But the horsepower showoffs are proving to be a persistent problem, and a proposal to install bollards was rejected.
In the area of urban security, the challenges are many. Cities are not only where many people live, but also a space in which potential threats lurk. Demographic change, social polarization and modern communication contribute to the complexity of the security situation. Access and control strategies are therefore extremely important to ensure safe coexistence. bpb.de highlights that many actors such as police, regulatory authorities and social institutions are involved in these efforts.
Night lights and prevention work
The “Nacht(sch)lichter” project, which is now financially secured until the end of 2026, is receiving particular attention. Problems should be actively addressed with an increased presence of the municipal correctional service in critical locations, especially the Schiefe Ecke. Jürgen Kunatz, police district manager, and city district office manager André Barth emphasized the importance of this funding from the Free State of Saxony. This initiative aims to support positive development in the district through joint efforts and a coherent overall concept.
Another plus point: There are no longer any current complaints, so a paper tightening police regulations was withdrawn. It was also found that police operations in 2024 fell compared to the previous year, which is seen as a sign of a positive trend reversal.
The team members of the Nacht(sch)lichter, who wear burgundy outfits with yellow lettering, are supposed to act as contact persons on site and have a de-escalating effect. The operations take place on Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. In order to strengthen the offer, 21 multilingual freelance staff were trained who are comprehensively trained in awareness, first aid and de-escalation.
The outdoor season at Alaunplatz starts with a colorful program organized by the Dresden Children and Youth Office. This event is eagerly awaited – not only by residents, but also by visitors who value the Neustadt as a place of diversity and life.
Overall, the situation in the Neustadt remains exciting and efforts to strengthen security are continually evolving. Citizen dialogue and the commitment of local residents are of great importance.
