Cult beer garden Ostende in the Neustadt: reopening inspires everyone!

In Dresden's Neustadt, the popular beer garden “Ostende” on Prießnitzstrasse has reopened its doors. After a four-year forced break, which was regretted by many residents, the brothers Jakob and Gregor Rogosch, who originally come from the Allgäu and are studying in Dresden, took over the helm. Jakob Rogosch had the idea of running the restaurant himself after spending many pleasant hours there. In May 2024 they submitted a request to the district house association and waited a few months for the evaluation. The wait was worth it, as guests can now relax in an inviting atmosphere again.

The beer garden can accommodate up to 80 guests outdoors and 50 indoors. The brothers juggle their time between their main jobs and the beer garden, which has so far been a side business. The first feedback from guests since the reopening has been consistently positive. “We have only received positive feedback so far, that’s really great!” says Jakob Rogosch. The drinks menu includes fresh Lößnitz Pils for 3.20 euros, and the Rogoschs attach great importance to regional partners for their deliveries.

A place for everyone

The Neustadt is known for its diversity of visitors - from sneaker-wearing hipsters to chargés, families and punks. The reopening of the beer garden is not only a joy for old regulars, but also a welcoming gesture for completely new faces. A few steps away is the LOUISENGARTEN, another popular place in the district, where you can enjoy the surroundings with a refreshing Neustadt Hell or a raspberry brew.

Although the beer garden does not yet have a kitchen, the Rogoschs plan to offer small snacks such as olives and cheese. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food - a nice way to create a picnic feeling in the beer garden. A visit to the “Ostend” becomes a sociable experience that just makes you want to linger.

future face

The brothers already have big plans for the future of the beer garden. They want to actively involve guests in the design of the place and are thinking of flea markets, concerts, summer cinemas and brunch offers. Such ideas help to redefine gastronomy in the district not only as an economic factor, but as a social space. Gastronomy plays a crucial role in urban development and has a positive impact on the quality of life of residents by serving as a meeting place and building community. These principles are supported by many local initiatives.

A look at the locally offered food suggests that the Rogoschs are not the only ones who want to appeal to the tastes of the new town. Gastronomy is not only an economic factor, but also a place for cultural interaction and social connections in the city. This needs to be strengthened by keeping Dresden's uniqueness and liveliness in mind.

The reopened garden oasis “Ostende” could thus help to further promote the community in the new town and expand the creative gastronomic landscape.
