Dresden under control: drug dealers arrested and 47 people examined!

In the Saxon state capital Dresden, the police carried out extensive checks on the busy Prager Straße on Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. A total of 47 people were checked and eleven were sent off. A particularly high-profile case was the arrest of an 18-year-old Syrian who was suspected of selling drugs. He was caught red-handed supplying cannabis to a 40-year-old man. During the subsequent inspection, the officers also seized additional cannabis packaged ready for sale.

The intensive police controls are part of a larger strategy to increase public safety and combat drug-related crime. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office's police crime statistics (PKS) for 2024, cannabis crimes have decreased since the partial legalization of cannabis on April 1, 2024, but there is still an increase in crimes that affect the population's sense of security. Social peace remains an issue of great importance, particularly in large cities where crime tends to be higher.

Crime development and challenges

The general development of crime in Germany shows a decrease of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. The main reason for this decrease is the reduction in cannabis crimes, which is related to the new legislation. Nevertheless, statistics show that property and forgery crimes, brutality crimes and crimes against personal freedom in particular continue to rise. As far as awareness is concerned, the awareness rate is around 58%, which has fallen slightly compared to the previous year and shows that there is still a lot of need for action.

What is particularly worrying is the increase in non-German suspects, which now accounts for 41.8%. In urban centers such as Dresden and Leipzig, the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime is significantly higher. There have also been a number of checks in Leipzig in the last few days, during which officers monitored, among other things, traffic accidents and other crimes. The emergency numbers for help in an emergency are always present: 110 for the police and 112 for the fire department or rescue services, such as lvz.de informed.

Safety concerns everyone

In emergencies, witnesses should remain calm and provide first aid if possible. It is advisable to stay at the scene and collect relevant information. These points are important aspects of enlightened, civil responsibility, as are the Statista Studies on crime victims show. In 2024, there were around 1.33 million registered crime victims, of which the number of victims of sexual offenses is at a record high of around 42,800.

The police will continue to carry out educational work and focus more on drug and violent crimes through targeted controls so that the population's feeling of security is strengthened. Increased joint efforts from police, civil society and politics can create a positive environment in which everyone feels safe.
