Fascination with Dalí: Mary with the Child” conquers the Neustadt!

A very special art event will soon take its place in the liveliness of Dresden's Neustadt. The exhibition “Mary with the Child” by Salvador Dalí will be on display in the Martin Luther Church from June 5th to July 13th, 2025. And the best part? Entry to the exhibition is free! Therefore, art lovers and curious people should mark this date in red on their calendar.

The opening will take place on June 5th at 6 p.m. Visitors can look forward to an opening that will give space to the words of Superintendent Albrecht Nollau and curator Herbert Specht. The event is accompanied by musical sounds from the church's trombone choir. It will be a cultural treat that not only appeals to the senses, but also stimulates discussion about Dalí's unique art.

A look at Dalí's masterpieces

The exhibition presents 20 original lithographs from the “Biblia Sacra” cycle, which show Dalí's artistic work through its many influences. Together with the captivating depiction of “Mary with the Child,” the exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in the non-visible, which Dalí understands like no other. His image shows St. Mary holding the child Jesus in her arms - a depiction characterized by warm blue and bright gold. The child's attentive connection with the viewer, pointing one hand upwards and the other downwards, symbolizes the connection between earth and sky. The city of Bethlehem can be seen in the depiction as the setting of the original story, with a bridge and escape routes that reveal the deeper longing for balance.

Dalí, the Spanish artist, never skimped on eccentricity and creativity in his work. He draws inspiration from the Renaissance and combines it with surrealistic elements, which are also evident in his lithographs. These works of art are not just pictures; They are the bridge between different worlds that combine Dalí's religious interests, his drawing virtuosity and his comprehensive education in a unique way. The “Biblia Sacra” is considered one of the most outstanding Bible illustrations of the 20th century, the first printings of which display technical refinements that are unparalleled.

Special opening times and promotions

The Martin Luther Church is open daily from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the exhibition period, with special opening hours being offered on June 14th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on June 15th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the “Colourful Summer Neustadt”.
