Fascination Dalí: Maria with the child conquers the new town!
In the liveliness of the Dresden Neustadt, a very special art event will soon take its place. The exhibition "Maria with the child" by Salvador Dalí will be shown in the Martin Luther Church from June 5 to July 13, 2025. And the best thing about it? Entry to the exhibition is free! Therefore, art lovers and curious should mark this appointment in red in the calendar.
The opening will take place on June 5 at 6 p.m. Visitors can look forward to a vernissage that gives the words of superintendent Albrecht Nollau and curator Herbert Specht. The event is accompanied by musical sounds of the Church's Posauenchor. It will be a cultural enjoyment that not only appeals to the senses, but also stimulates the discussion about Dalí's unique art.
A look at Dalí's masterpieces
In the exhibition, 20 original lithographs from the “Biblia Sacra” cycle are presented, which shows Dalí's artistic work during its multitude of influences. Together with the captivating representation of "Maria with the child", the exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in the non-visible, which Dalí understands like no other. His picture shows Saint Mary, who holds the child of Jesus in her arms - a representation that is characterized by warm blue and radiant gold. The attentive connection of the child to the viewer, which points upwards with one hand and the other down, symbolizes the connection between earth and heaven. The city of Bethlehem can be recognized in the representation as a venue of the original story, with a bridge and escape route that show the deeper longing for balance.
Dalí, the Spanish artist, never saved in eccentricity and creativity in his work. He pulls inspiration from the Renaissance and connects them with surrealistic elements, which are also clear in his lithographs. These works of art are not just pictures; They are the bridge between different worlds that combine Dalí's religious interest, his drawing virtuosity and its extensive education in a unique way. The "Biblia Sacra" is considered one of the most outstanding Bible illustrations of the 20th century, the first prints of which have technical refinements that are second to none.
Special opening times and actions
The Martin Luther Church is open daily from 2 to 5 p.m. during the exhibition period, with special opening hours offered on June 14 from 2pm to 7pm and on June 15 to 5 p.m. as part of the "Colorful Summer Neustadt". These occasions not only offer time to admire art, but also the chance of immersing in discussions about Dalí's works.
To enable this, it will also be an artificial talk with curator and lender, pastor i.R. Dr. Herbert Specht, give. At this event, interested parties can ask questions about the exhibits and their backgrounds. Salvador Dalí, with his cycle "Biblia Sacra", captured his comprehensive stories and questioning truths in a way that already caused a sensation during his lifetime and which is still fascinating today.
For everyone who feels at home in the Dresden art scene or are just looking for an impressive cultural experience: Let Salvador Dalís sweep yourself away and enjoy the opportunity to see one of the artist's greatest image cycles. As is said so nicely: "There is something!"
