Old splendor rediscovered: Pillnitz Castle inspires at Museum Night!

A special event is coming up in Dresden: it opens on Saturday evening, June 14, 2025 Pillnitz Castle Museum his goals for the Dresden Museum Night. The motto “Old splendor in new splendor” comes impressively to life this evening. From 6:00 p.m. to midnight, museum lovers can discover the restored treasures and historic rooms.

Restoration experts Sandra Risz and Eric Stenzel will be there, presenting their lovingly done work on the enchanting ceiling paintings and the decorative frieze in the dome hall. It will be exciting: insights into the restoration process will be available at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. These works of art come from Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein, an esteemed court painter of the early 19th century, whose works now shine in fresh splendor after more than 40 years.

Insights into the collections

In addition, museologist Sophia Müller opens the door to her everyday work and the art depot at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The collection items on display have not previously been available to the public, which makes the opportunity all the more special. Anyone who would like to experience art up close can also take part in an exciting art project led by cultural educator Gabriele Manke from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The permanent exhibition “From Play Castle to Summer Residence” also presents Dresden’s unique classical domed building as well as the reconstructed royal court kitchen and the Catholic chapel. The domed hall, with its impressive free-standing Corinthian columns and coffered hanging dome, creates a majestic ambience, while the historic walls were artfully designed by the court painter Vogel von Vogelstein.

Tickets and directions

For everyone who wants to experience the Museum Night: Tickets are available for €15.00, both online and at the ticket machines. This admission ticket is valid not only for the Pillnitz Castle Museum, but also for all other participating museums in Dresden as well as for free use of public transport in the VVO area. Bus number 63 takes visitors directly to the castle.

The Dresden Museum Night proves once again that the city offers a lively cultural scene. A total of over 45 museums and cultural institutions open their doors on this day and offer a diverse program of exhibitions, guided tours, hands-on activities and concerts. A highlight will be the special exhibition “Space” by Wolfgang Tillmans in the Albertinum, as well as the interactive exhibition “Dresden in Motion” in the city museum, which looks at the city’s 800-year history.
