Smoke development in Dresden fire ruins – fire brigade on duty!
On Monday evening, June 9, 2025, the fire department in Dresden-Leuben was alerted to a fire in the former state operetta. According to tixio.de, an alert resident reported noticeable smoke coming from the fire-damaged ruin at around 5:19 p.m., which made immediate action necessary.
A total of 16 emergency services from the Striesen fire and rescue station and the Niedersedlitz district fire department quickly moved out to Pirnaer Landstrasse. The situation was confirmed on site: bright smoke was billowing from the rear part of the building and the smell of burning wood was clearly noticeable. This is also reported by Presseportal.de.
Firefighting underway
It didn't take long for the fire department to arrive. A turntable ladder was used to gain access to the building and locate the source of the fire, where several wooden beams were smoldering. A demanding task awaited the fire brigade, as the fire had to be extinguished from the basket of the turntable ladder using a jet pipe. This approach was deemed safe and efficient in bringing the fire under control quickly.
For the duration of the operation, Pirnaer Landstrasse had to be partially closed for around 20 minutes, which also affected local public transport operated by the Dresden transport company. Luckily there were no injuries.
Background to fire statistics
Incidents like this make it clear how important a well-functioning fire protection system is. According to FeuerTrutz, there are no uniform fire statistics for Germany, which makes it difficult to analyze and improve fire protection. A detailed overview of fires, their causes and consequences could noticeably increase safety measures in future emergencies.
After extinguishing work was completed, the fire department handed the site over to the police. They will now continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident. A small ray of hope in the history of the fire ruins - the emergency services once again show their good hand when it comes to making the best of such situations.
