Be careful, speed cameras! There is lightning here in Dresden today!

In Dresden today, June 4th, 2025, everything revolves around mobile speed monitoring. A total of four radar boxes have been set up in the city to increase traffic safety and punish speeding. The locations of the flash units are strategically chosen to protect both drivers and pedestrians. According to news.de, the current speed cameras are positioned as follows:

  • A 4 (01109 Klotzsche): Tempolimit 80 km/h – gemeldet um 15:42 Uhr
  • Sachsenwerkstraße (01257 Leuben, Nähe Ärztehaus Niedersedlitz): Tempolimit 50 km/h – gemeldet um 15:29 Uhr
  • Winterbergstraße (01237 Blasewitz): Tempolimit 50 km/h – gemeldet um 15:58 Uhr
  • Zschertnitzer Straße (01219 Prohlis): Tempolimit 30 km/h – gemeldet um 10:45 Uhr

The influence of mobile speed cameras on traffic safety should not be underestimated. Speeding is considered a frequent cause of accidents in Germany, and to counteract this, the Road Traffic Act (StVO) has clear regulations on how to punish such violations. The basic penalties are included in the ADAC list of fines and points for speeding violations, which vary greatly depending on the speed limit.

Fines and points – what threatens violations?

The potential penalties for speeding can range from a simple warning fine to significant fines and even driving bans. Within built-up areas the fines are as follows:

Exceedance (km/h) Fine (€) Points Driving ban
Until 10 30
11-15 50
16-20 70
21-25 115 1
26-30 180 1 month
31-40 260 2 months
41-50 400 2 months
Over 50 Higher amounts Different Different

This shows how quickly fun can turn into an expensive pleasure. Road traffic authorities have high hopes for mobile speed monitoring as they need to prove that compliance with speed limits is of paramount importance not only for road users but also for all pedestrians.

Blitzer – knowledge is power!

In order to be prepared for the mobile speed camera front, road users can also find out about a speed camera map that shows the locations of speed cameras in Germany. The speed camera map enables drivers to specifically research lightning locations in their area and identify potential danger zones. The map is continually updated and includes a comprehensive list of speed cameras and red light monitoring systems.

It remains to be seen to what extent the city of Dresden's measures will have an impact and contribute to increasing traffic safety. One thing is certain: keeping a good grip and sticking to the speed limits is the best way to avoid traffic fines and points!
