Gemebüff pocket mountain palace: luxurious reopening after renovation!
in the heart of the historic old town of Dresden, directly between the majestic kennel and the Residenzschloss, the Grandhotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski rises. With an illustrious list of prominent guests, to which names like Barack Obama, Elton John and Vladimir Putin, the hotel has gained a remarkable reputation since its opening in 1995. In order to meet modern standards, the hotel was temporarily closed in January 2023 and subjected to comprehensive renovation. This necessity arose after 28 years of hotel operations to meet the requirements of today, as the ARD Mediathek stated.
As part of the renovation, architects and designers worked on combining modern design with charismatic monument protection. All electrical and water pipes were renewed, which was not only complex, but also expensive. 140 employees of the hotel were housed in other Kempinski houses, while some stayed in Dresden. Long -standing employees such as Thomas Wenzel, responsible for housekeeping, and Kerstin Meier, the housekeeper, are an integral part of the hotel team.
solemn reopening
On February 15, 2024, the pocket mountain palace celebrated its solemn reopening. Now the guests can linger in 180 rooms and 31 suites and were received by a modern and elegant ambience. The lobby has also been revised and is now based on the course of the Elbe. The hotel has a lot to offer with the Pâtisserie & Lounge "Amalie" as well as the "Das Palais" restaurant and the fish restaurant "Kastenemeier". For cocktail lovers there is an inspiring menu in the bar "1705", based on the "Rolling Twenties".
A highlight of the house is the Royal Suite, one of the largest hotelsuites in Germany. This offers pure luxury on 380 square meters by combining the King and Queen Suite. Markus Hilzinger, who is responsible for interior design, has harmoniously combined history and modern elegance in the design. In addition, the spa area on the top floor is equipped with baroque accents and offers an oasis to relax.
a long hotel history
The history of the Taschenbergpalais goes back to 1705 when Elector August der Starke commissioned the building for Countess Cosel. After the almost complete destruction of an air raid in 1945, the building remained a ruin for almost five decades. The reconstruction, which started in 1993, is a symbol of Dresden's rebirth after the Second World War. On March 31, 1995, the hotel finally opened its doors, a milestone for the city and for Kempinski, the oldest luxury hotel group in Europe, which was founded in 1897 and today operates 82 five-star hotels in 35 countries.
Since the history of the pocket mountain palace is particularly important, its 30th anniversary will be celebrated on March 31, 2025. These celebrations are not only a review of three decades of hospitality, but also an outlook on the future development of the house. At a time when the expectations of luxury and service increase, the pocket mountain palace will continue to play an important role in the heart of Dresden, as well as [desire for Dresden] (https://www.lust-auf-auf-dresden.com/post/umfangreiche-renovation-deschenbergpalais-kempinski- [Kempinski] (https://www.kempinski.com/de/hotel-faschenbergpalais/historie/30-years 30-jahrenbergpalais) report.
