Violence at the train station: bodily harm and pepper spray use shake Dresden
Last weekend, more precisely on June 15, 2025, there were regrettable incidents of assault in Dresden Central Station and in the Dresden-Neustadt train station, which the federal police troted. As the Leipzig time reported, the officials were continuously deployed to ensure the safety of travelers and also pursued the criminal acts that were taking place in this central area.
Immediately on Sunday evening, a dispute between two Syrian citizens escalated in the main train station. At around 6:55 p.m., an 18-year-old man used pepper spray against a 43-year-old opponent, which not only led to a dangerous situation, but also injured an uninvolved 10-year-old child. Despite the fast reaction of DB security employees, the young man did not let off his aggressive attitude and sprayed again, so that an employee of Deutsche Bahn and other travelers were also affected. The 18-year-old is now the focus of the police because he is already known for similar incidents. Criminal proceedings for bodily harm were initiated, as well as tag24 supplemented
further arguments on the same day
Already at noon of the same day, around 1:20 p.m., another assault in the main station occurred. Here a 31-year-old Afghan citizen hit a 32-year-old compatriot, which also led to a criminal complaint against the perpetrator. Such incidents are not the exception to show current statistics on crime in and around train stations. In 2024, over 10,600 assault in German train stations were registered, an increase compared to previous years, such as the Tagesschau
But it was not with these arguments. Also on June 14, 2025, at 01:00 a.m., the federal police were alerted when a person with a knife injury was found in the back area in front of the Dresden-Neustadt train station. Investigations indicate that the injury resulted from a dispute within a group of four. Here, too, the investigation by the Saxons police is underway.
The security situation and measures of Deutsche Bahn
Deutsche Bahn has increasingly taken measures in recent years to increase safety in its train stations and trains. This includes the increase in video cameras, which have now grown at 11,000 in train stations, as well as numerous security forces that are in use around the clock. A total of around 6,000 federal police officers and 4,500 security forces from Deutsche Bahn are involved in Germany. Every year, over 200 million euros are invested in security measures to offer travelers a proper level of security.
However, the weekend incidents show that despite these efforts, the dangers are not entirely averted. Travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant and to take on accommodating information seriously. After all, a large number of people use the train stations every day, whereby a great focus should be on personal security.
