Dresden in competition fever: Parakanuten fight for championship titles!

In Dresden, the sporting atmosphere will be raised to a new level from July 31, 2025! The German championship in Parakanu has already established itself as a fixed highlight in the event calendar and will take place this year as part of the finals. For the first time in HafenCity, this spectacle is held, which has already been successfully held in Berlin and the Rhein-Ruhr region in the past. A total of 20 German championships at nine different sports facilities are on the program as part of the finals. The associated live broadcast promises more than 30 hours of the best entertainment, both on television and about various streaming channels and on radio, such as kanu.de.

With the Parakanu, there is an important part of the finals for the fourth time this year. A total of eight athletes fight for the finale that will take place on August 1, 2025. The defending champion is the talented Felicia Laberer from SC Berlin-Grünau, who competes in the KL3 class. The other participants include Edina Müller from the Hamburg Canoe Club, Anja Adler from Halle and Moritz Berthold. In the competitions, the spectators can expect exciting duels in overarching boat classes, including single kayaks (KL1-KL3) and the interpreter canu VA’A (VL1-VL3).

a new competition format

This year an innovative event format with a chase race and a knockout system is introduced, which ensures even more tension. Depending on the performance comparison, the athletes start in temporal handicaps every day, which guarantees exciting and mixed duels for the audience. Equal equality is created by a class compensation. This new format is a step into the future and will certainly also be taken into account in other championships, such as the 10th German Parakanu Championships in Hamburg, which take place last August. These championships face the challenge of being carried out under strict corona regulations and have a guest from eleven different clubs. The participants there can also look forward to mix-two races, in which athletes with and without disabilities take together, a nice step towards inclusion, such as DRS.

If you look at the developments in Parakanu in general, it becomes clear that interest in this sport is growing steadily. At the last German championships in canal racing in Brandenburg in 2024, over 800 athletes were at the start, which shows that there is also a big crowd in classic racing. The community is alive, and the many club members offer excellent support, as described on [Kanu-Brandenburg] (https://kanu-brandenburg.de/kanu-rennsport-103-deutsche championships-mit---di-olympiaeilter/). Not only do professionals take part here, but great importance is also attached to the offspring.

The finals in Dresden are not only a shop window of the best Parakanu athletes, but also proof of how much sport grows and develops. The audience can look forward to exciting competitions and emotions on the water!
