Trams back to Damaschkeplatz: passengers save time!

After four months of construction, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel: from Thursday, September 11, 2025, the trams will run across Damaschkeplatz again. This eliminates the need for a diversion via the Südring, which is a welcome relief for many passengers. This is reported by the Day24.

The bridge closure was necessary in order to install the new overhead line on the temporary ring bridge, which affects the structures in Stadtfeld Ost. From September 11th it will again be possible to reach the city center and the main train station directly with tram lines 1, 3, 4 and 6. This saves passengers up to 20 minutes each way – that’s a big deal!

Current situation of the tram lines

The diversions during the closure are now history. The list of tram lines that will serve Damaschkeplatz again from September 11th is as follows:

line route
1 Sudenburg – Kannenstieg (via Westring, ZOB, main station/Kölner Platz, Alter Markt)
2 Westerhüsen – Old Neustadt (unchanged)
3 Olvenstedt Clinic – Leipziger Chaussee (via Olvenstedter Platz, ZOB, main station/Willy-Brandt-Platz, Hasselbachplatz)
4 Olvenstedt Clinic – Cracau (via Olvenstedter Platz, ZOB, main station/Kölner Platz, Allee-Center)
5 Olvenstedt Clinic – exhibition center (via Europaring, Südring, Buckau S-Bahn station, Hasselbachplatz, Alter Markt)
6 Diesdorf – Herrenkrug (via Westring, ZOB, main station/Kölner Platz, Allee-Center, arenas)
8 Neustädter See – Westerhüsen (unchanged)
9 Neustädter See – reform (unchanged)
10 Sudenburg – Barleber See (diverted via Wiener Straße and Leipziger Straße)

The diversion of line 10 will remain in place until further notice due to the closure of the ring bridge on Halberstädter Straße. The MVB (Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe) advises passengers to find out about current departure times and route routes before starting their journey. These can be accessed via various channels such as the website and electronic timetable information, so that you are always up to date. Alternatively, bus line 52 offers a redirected connection between Arndtstrasse and Robert-Koch-Strasse.

Public transport in Magdeburg

Magdeburg offers well-connected public transport, including trams and buses. The Magdeburg transport company ensure that the districts are connected to the center. The advantages of trams – regular journeys, short waiting times and environmentally friendly operation – make them particularly attractive for users.

As a result of the timetable change, accessibility is also very important. Many stops and vehicles are designed to be barrier-free so that all passengers can board without any problems. In the future, MVB plans to invest in modern ticket apps and energy-efficient vehicles. This not only offers an improvement for passengers, but also helps reduce CO₂ emissions.

Overall, the development of traffic in Magdeburg is definitely positive and the restoration of direct connections brings a breath of fresh air to the city's public transport.
