Gorbitz celebrates the fairytale Westhangfest: a festival for all the senses!

On June 14th it's that time again: The Westhangfest in Gorbitz transforms the high promenade between Sachsenforum and Amalie-Dietrich-Platz into a fairytale festival. Organized by Astrid Hoffmann and Jürgen Czytrich, the event will feature a colorful program for young and old from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For the organizers, who are actively working to promote the positive image of Gorbitz, it is important to set an example and show the colorful diversity of the district. [Sächsische Zeitung](https://www.saechsische.de/lokales/dresden/gorbitzer-westhangfest- Feiern-als-ob-es-kein-morgen-gaebe-DUPSRWOPJREUJNBJY4MXW3SZ2M.html) reports that this year's motto “Fairytalelike” is intended to take visitors to another world.

The entrance fee will turn out to be a real paradise for the little festival guests. Activities such as making Aladdin's magic lamp, gilding hazelnuts and an exciting fairy tale course are offered. The children can also try out circus games, listen to stories or test their strength on the Rapunzel climbing tower. Dresden Week added that a puppet show of the “Cultivated Wolf” at 3 and 4 p.m. will enchant viewers.

Food and drink for every taste

Of course, the culinary highlights are not missing either. Visitors can look forward to, among other things, “Teufelchen’s pancakes”, “Buttje’s fish rolls” and “Cinderella’s pea soup”, while Hanseln’s stick bread leaves nothing to be desired for the hungry little ones. The festival is musically supported by the “Encore Orchestra” and the “Blechlawine”, whose sounds create a cheerful atmosphere. Another culinary treat is the invitation to Gorbitzers to submit their own recipes. These can be submitted by May to the email address passage@jks.dresden.de. Dresden Week promises that a selected favorite dish will be prepared by private chef Kai Kochan during the festival.

The festival also has a special goal: to spread the positive image of Gorbitz to the world. This is particularly important because the Social City funding program, which ran for over 20 years, ends this year. With a budget of around 30,000 euros, the organizers plan to bring the last beautiful colors into the festival's 15-year history. For all those who don't want to miss the festival, June 14th is a good opportunity to preserve a piece of home.
