Dresden fells oak tree: traffic safety comes first, replacement tree is coming!
A tree felling is taking place in Dresden, which is causing a stir. An approximately 23 meter high oak tree, which is currently located on Hüblerstrasse, must be felled between March 1st and September 31st, despite the ban on tree felling. The reason for this is a report from a publicly appointed expert which confirms that the tree poses a threat to public traffic. This operation will begin at 8 a.m. and during the work an environmental protection specialist from the Environment Agency will be on site to ensure that all regulations are adhered to.
This is not the first case of tree felling under strict regulations. In Germany, and especially in Bavaria, there are clear rules that are set out in the tree protection regulations. These describe the general conditions under which property owners are allowed to fell trees to ensure the protection of the environment. For example, felling an oak tree with a trunk circumference of 80 cm is only permitted under certain conditions in order to protect biodiversity and the urban climate, such as Mr. GmbH shows.
Full commitment to a new tree
The diversion of Hüblerstrasse during the felling work will definitely be necessary to ensure the safety of residents and passers-by. After the felling, the Environment Agency plans to plant a replacement tree in autumn 2025 or spring 2026. A species of oak is planned that is adapted to the changing climatic conditions. This shows that maintaining inner-city greenery is a high priority for the city.
There are currently 79 natural tree monuments in the Dresden region, including 60 deciduous trees and 19 coniferous trees. The care and preservation of these trees is of great importance. The experiences of service providers like Teuto tree felling, who work in the area, show that professional advice and checking permits are essential before each felling operation. This is the only way to ensure that not only the legal guidelines are adhered to, but also that the townscape and the well-being of the residents are preserved.
As far as nature is concerned, the ban on felling between March 1st and September 30th is generally recognized in Germany in order not to endanger protected animals during their breeding season. Exceptions are only approved in special cases, such as when an acute danger arises from a tree. This shows how seriously legislative measures are taken to protect the environment.

The current felling on Hüblerstrasse is part of a carefully coordinated process that aims to both protect and renew the city's greenery. In the interests of urban development, it is important to demonstrate good skill in selecting suitable tree species in order to continue to create an environment worth living in in the future.
