Episcopal Ordinariate moves to the new Provost Beier House in Dresden!

The Episcopal Ordinariate of Dresden is about to make a significant move: After more than 40 years, it is leaving its previous headquarters in Dresden-Blasewitz and will be moving to the new Propst Beier House, located at Schweriner Straße 27 in downtown Dresden, from October 6, 2025. The move was necessary because the old building was no longer sustainable due to its high need for renovation and could not be made barrier-free. These challenges made it impossible to renovate the old location, so those responsible ultimately decided to relocate the headquarters. According to katholisch.de, this step is considered the most sensible and cost-effective solution.

The new Propst Beier House was built over the past three and a half years and ultimately cost around 48 million euros. Originally, the construction costs were according to plan at 42 million euros. The Dresden office of O+M Architekten is responsible for the project, with sustainability and energy efficiency being central aspects of the approach. Equipped with a green roof, a photovoltaic system and a cistern for garden irrigation, the new headquarters should also take environmentally friendly aspects into account, as bistum-dresden-meissen.de reports.

Moving details and new premises

The move itself will take place for around 80 employees between September 22nd and October 2nd, 2025. During this time, limited accessibility to the Ordinariate is to be expected. The new headquarters will be accessible regularly from October 6th. The new address will then be: Diocese of Dresden-Meißen, Episcopal Ordinariate, Schweriner Straße 27, 01067 Dresden.

The Propst Beier House will be a modern administrative center with sophisticated interior design. Around 40 percent of the building area, or around 6,400 square meters, will be rented out as office and residential space in the future. The offering also includes offices, an underground car park, bicycle parking, event rooms and a registry. A small garden and a chapel in the entrance area - designed after the biblical "cornerstone" - form further central elements of the new house.

A look into the future

The move and the new location not only promote a modern way of working, but also allow for flexible adjustments to the administrative space depending on the number of employees. The planning process for the new building project spanned several years and involved numerous committees, including the Diocesan Asset Management Board. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in February 2022, followed by the laying of the foundation stone on November 10, 2022 by Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers and Vicar General Andreas Kutschke.

All in all, the new Provost Beier House promises a breath of fresh air for the Episcopal Ordinariate and thus also for the entire staff. Residents will be excited to see how the new center will integrate into the cityscape and what events will take place there in the future.
