Pirna celebrates: Big city festival inspires with music and fun!

The anticipation is growing in Pirna, because in two weeks, from June 20th to 22nd, the city will welcome visitors to the annual city festival. The celebrations are divided into an exciting program that is a real highlight not only for the residents but also for tourists. Another plus: this festival marks the official start of summer! [Dawo] reports that the opening will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. on the main stage at the market.

What can visitors expect? On the opening evening, the party band Jolly Jumper will ensure the atmosphere. Saturday, another highlight, features a performance by Glasperlenspiel from 9 p.m. The crowning conclusion of the festival is Sunday with the Stern Combo Meißen from 3 p.m. But that's not all. Breite Straße is transformed into a colorful family and youth area with adventure rides such as a roller coaster and a variety of culinary delicacies.

Diverse activities and special honors

The motto of the city festival, “Pirna (ba)rockt”, not only brings momentum, but is also a homage to the famous city painter Bernardo Belotto, also known as Canaletto, whose 300th birthday is being celebrated with honor. The entire festival area, which extends through parts of the historic city center, will feature activities and attractions reminiscent of Canaletto's time. The monastery courtyard becomes a baroque venue under the patronage of Count von Brühl [Wochenkurier].

The musical performances at the festival are also diverse. In addition to Jolly Jumper, there are performances by the Kasematten Krawallos and the Black Velvet Band, who are expected on Saturday. There is also a colorful music program in the bars: in HUGOS on Schmiedestrasse there will be performances by Selfish Murphy and many other bands. In addition, Les Café at Jacobäerstraße 1 creates a special atmosphere with Balearic beats [Dawo].

Activities for young and old

A very special highlight will be the laser performance show “Canaletto 300” on Saturday evening on the market square, which will captivate the audience. In addition to exciting performances by the bands, the activities for children should not be neglected. At the blue light mile in Schössergasse, young and old can experience emergency vehicles up close and even take an active part [Wochenkurier].

For connoisseurs, there is a selection of regional wines and live music in the wine village at St. Mary's Church. On Saturdays there is also the opportunity to meet the Saxon Wine Queen at an autograph session. The Pirna parishes invite you to special events in the St. Marien Church during the festival, while a sports and adventure mile with the FEP Dragon Boat Cup and the Lions Club's 8th Pear Cup awaits all sports enthusiasts at the Elbe meadows.

Of course, practicality must also be taken into account: With all the celebrations, there will be traffic restrictions and limited parking in the old town area. Visitors should therefore use the ferry to Pirna-Copitz, which runs until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and until 8 p.m. on Sundays [Dawo].

The city festival in Pirna promises to be a great entertainment program for young and old. And if you want to get in the mood for your visit, you can take a look around at the DDV location at Schössergasse 6 with a 10% discount on many items. With all these highlights there is only one thing left to say: Pirna, get ready, because three great days full of fun and joy are just around the corner!
