Something exciting is happening in the newly created Schützengarten residential area at Dresden-Mitte train station: a new public playground and neighborhood area is being created. Construction work will begin on September 23, 2023 on Amely-Bölte-Straße and completion of the lively location is scheduled for June 2026. This project is a real benefit for the neighborhood and is accompanied by a budget of around 333,000 euros, as Sächsische.de reports.
The Schützengarten itself was only completed this year and already offers space for 403 new apartments. The playground will not only improve the quality of life of the new residents, but the wishes of children from the surrounding primary schools will also be incorporated into the project. The future users have already been involved in the planning in several workshops to ensure that the play area meets their needs, according to the city's press release Dresden.de.
Sustainable urban development and promotion
The construction of the playground falls under the “Growth and Sustainable Renewal” funding program, which aims to make the western city center of Dresden more lively. This nationwide program to promote urban development significantly promotes sustainable urban development in Germany. A total of 790 million euros is available in the federal budget for 2024, which will support projects like this, explains the Federal Ministry of Urban Development.
Another interesting point is that not only the newly designed play equipment comes from Naturholz Kästner GmbH, but the design of the entire playground also comes from the Dresden landscape architects MAY. The company DTM Landschaftsbau GmbH Sachsen takes care of the construction and ensures that everything is implemented on time and according to the latest standards.
