Theater project for young people: Creativity for a sustainable future!
The new initiative “Planet Future – Theater Days of the Future” brings a breath of fresh air to Dresden! Organized by the association Sukuma arts e. V., this exciting project offers young people the opportunity to fully express their creative talents in a summer holiday program. Not only are ideas needed here, but young people can also actively write, help shape and play along. In this way, your own play is created in a relaxed atmosphere, supported by an experienced theater teacher.
An important goal of “Planet Future” is to create an active youth community committed to global sustainability. The project encourages participants to make their contribution to a better future every day and to realize their visions. In addition to creative work, there is also time for relaxation, cooking and playing together. A real fun factor that brings the group together!
Justice and sustainability in focus
What does this have to do with sustainability? A whole lot! As the BKJ explained, the term justice from the perspective of sustainability includes both climate justice and social justice. Theater can play a key role here by connecting knowledge, feeling and action and enabling young actors to look beyond their own life circumstances.
Important topics are also the UN Sustainability Goals, which should receive increasing attention in many performing arts programs. This includes fighting poverty and hunger, health, quality education and gender equality. The Berlin Festival emphasize that the exchange about sustainable cultural work can produce impressive approaches such as “more culture with less environmental impact”. Commitment to ongoing awareness in the arts is crucial.
Actually, all actors working in the performing arts have a responsibility, they just have to become aware of it and communicate the issues clearly. Sustainability should not just be viewed as a short-term goal, but should be firmly anchored in theater work.
“Planet Future” represents exactly this change. It offers the opportunity for young people to actively engage with sustainability issues and thus lay the foundation for future projects. A strong network of committed young people could help shape a better world - right now!
The Theater Days are not only a platform for creative development, but also a space to shed light on important social and ecological issues. The association Sukuma arts e. V. has retained a good knack for these concerns and thus meets young people where they can experience joy and community.
