Chaos on Dresden's streets: Marathon causes massive traffic disruptions!
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, the expected marathon will take place in Dresden and the city is already preparing for a sporting spectacle. The Dresden transport company (DVB) is not idle and warns of extensive traffic disruptions between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. It's best to avoid the city center if your destination is not in the city center, as more than a dozen tram and bus lines have to be switched to alternative schedules. Current information can be found on the DVB website, and if you have any questions, the DVB service telephone is available at 0351-8 57 10 11. For information during the competition you can reach the citizen hotline at 0351-2 16-17 17.
This year's marathon is a very special event: it will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Dresden Marathon. The festivities begin on Friday from 6 p.m. behind the Heinz Steyer Stadium, where a party will take place in the marquee. However, the event is only accessible with an admission ticket. There will be no traditional pasta party with live music this year, but there will be a marathon fair in the BallsportARENA, which is open from Friday to Sunday. The themes of the trade fair revolve around endurance sports, health, fitness, nutrition and travel.
International participants and records
This year, spectators can look forward to exciting competitions. The participants include Blanka Dörfel from Berlin with a personal best time of 1:09:45 hours, the top German runner Johannes Motschmann and Yvonne van Vlerken, the Dutch triathlete and duathlon world champion. Last year's participant record of 9,500 registrations could be exceeded again this year.
In the historical record of the marathon, adjustments were made to the route in 2024 due to the collapsed Carola Bridge. Last year, Kenyan Julis Kiprono Tarus won the men's event with a time of 2:14:44 hours, while Caroline Jeruto Chesir, also from Kenya, won the women's event in 2:35:08 hours. The course records are also interesting: Ezekiel Koech (Kenya) has held the men's record with 2:10:00 hours since 2019 and Teclah Chebet (Kenya) has set the standards for women with 2:30:30 hours since 2022.
Important information for viewers
The Loschwitz Bridge, known as the “Blue Miracle”, will be one of the sights that catch the eye of participants and spectators during the marathon, along with the Frauenkirche and the Golden Rider. This impressive steel truss bridge from 1893 connects the districts of Loschwitz and Blasewitz and, despite its criticism at the time, is now very important to Dresden residents.
With such impressive achievements on the horizon and a strong number of participants, the upcoming marathon is not only a highlight for the running community, but also a big celebration for the city of Dresden itself. Many will not miss the opportunity to take part in these exciting competitions and celebrations. With this in mind: Get ready for an unforgettable weekend in Dresden!
