Today, on June 20, 2025, there was a special reason for excitement when excavators seemed to be surrounded by the Elbe water as an excavator. The current demolition work on the two remaining bridge trains of the Carol Bridge were only started last week. A total of around 13,000 tons of material, including water modules, empty pipes and sand, are required for the fall bed. After completing the work on the Neustädter side, the focus is on the old town side, where work is also necessary. The city has also taken forward -looking measures: the planned demolition should take eight weeks, and there are some challenges when the last part of the bridge was terminated. According to asphalt and concrete layer, the bank walls must also be removed. The use of the excavator on Baustraße is therefore indispensable in order to be able to carry out the upcoming work efficiently.
The project also has an impact on shipping on the Elbe. In view of the demolition, the bridge train acts as a drainage obstacle and measures to restore the fairway must be taken with a uniform water depth. This150m wide fairway was recently affected by landings, as well as the temporary stability of bridge trains A and B.
The responsible authorities are in constant contact with the waterway and shipping office to keep an eye on the situation, while the Dresden film nights are already planning for the coming season 2025.
