When the weekly passion for football blossoms in Vogtland, it's time again for the big Sternquell Vogtland Cup. The spectators can look forward to exciting events in which the big traditional teams use the opportunity to demonstrate their skills. André Rabe, managing director of the Vogtland Football Association (VFV), is tingling with anticipation for the event and has no concerns that anything could go wrong - an optimistic attitude that many in Vogtland share.
Not only is the men's teams expected to meet, the junior teams will also show what they're made of. Young footballers in Vogtland will be put to the test in seven crucial matches and two additional tournaments. There's something going on!
A spectacle for the fans
A large fan base can also be expected. Last year, in the men's final, around...1,450 fanscelebrate the impressive 5-0 victory of VfB Schöneck 1912 over SC Syrau 1919. The occasion was not only a football celebration, but also an opportunity to bring the community together and celebrate local football talent. SV Merkur 06 Oelsnitz crowned the women with a 5:1 win against SG Pfaffengrün/Zobes, and the over-35 team from SV Merkur grabbed the title with a 5:2 against SpG Kottengrün/Neustadt. The junior teams also showed great performances. For example, the A-Juniors of VFC Reichenbach 96 were able to prevail against SpG Bergen/Grünbach-Falkenstein after an exciting penalty shootout.
