An early flood warning was issued in Saxony today, which also affects the Vogtland. The state flood center has issued the warning for the river and catchment area of the White Elster. This will remain in force until Tuesday morning at 5 a.m., with the risk situation being classified as “moderate”. Free press reported.
Residents have to be prepared for minor sprawl, especially near streams and rivers. There is also a risk that agricultural areas and individual cellars will be flooded. In recent hours, water levels have already exceeded the guideline alert levels, further reinforcing the warning.

Current measurements show that the water level has risen by more than 5 cm in the last two hours, meaning that alert levels 1 to 4 have already been activated, ranging from a simple reporting service to flood defense. This situation can have serious implications both locally and regionally. The Saxon Ministry of the Environment notes that attention should be paid to the weather warnings from the German Weather Service, which can predict local flood events.
Flood risks are generally a central issue in water management. Complete protection against flooding is not technically or economically feasible. Therefore, comprehensive flood risk management is of utmost importance. In addition to area precautions, these measures also include technical measures and behavioral precautions for possible events such as this Federal Environment Agency reported.
