Art and culture: This is what awaits you at the Schaubudensommer in Dresden!
In the coming days, Dresden will once again be the scene of lively culture and fascinating entertainment. From July 1st to 3rd, 2025, the main street in the Neustadt will be transformed into a colorful stage Show booth summer, the international summer festival for theater, fun and music. Every day from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., talented street artists from Dresden, Germany and all over Europe present their bizarre numbers and creative contributions. The festival not only aims to strengthen the cultural connection between the new town and the old town, but is also intended to serve as an after-work activity for all strolling and determined people. Not only is art celebrated here, but everyday life in the city is also reflected in an entertaining way.
The highlights of the Schaubudensommer include performances by Jan Pfundak, who enchants with stage magic, Shiva Grings, who inspires with humor, and the circus show by Common Ground. Daan Mathot and Vincent de Rooij bring a theater production with a wardrobe to the stage that arouses curiosity and wonder.
Fascinating productions in July
But that's not all! The region also offers some impressive theater performances. The last production before extensive renovation will be performed at the Waldbühne Jonsdorf: “Robin Hood”. This production of the legendary medieval hero will take place between July 5th and 27th, 2025. The forest stage, embedded in nature, offers a wonderful backdrop for this adventurous story.
Another highlight is the opera “Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber, which is performed on the Rathen rock stage. Directed by Manfred Schöbel and with a musical performance by the Elblandphilharmonie, visitors can experience on July 25th and 26th how Max has to impress with a test shot at the Schützenfest. The performance lasts a total of 165 minutes with an intermission and promises an unforgettable experience.
A mix of tradition and modernity
On June 28th, the adventure play “Shatterhand”, based on the stories by Karl May, will be performed. Here the conflict dynamics between Apaches and Comanches are dramatized and the challenges of colonization and warfare are addressed. This performance will captivate viewers with a duration of 150 minutes.
The audience can also expect the dance performance “Vice Versa” in the Semperoper, which focuses on the power of the wind. Put together by choreographers Imre and Marne van Opstal, this production will be shown together with the piece “Noetic” by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui on July 1st, 4th, 6th and 10th. Dance and theater come together at the highest level here.
Dresden has a lot more to offer in 2025: While the city looks forward to this year full of cultural and sporting highlights, the destruction of Dresden is also being remembered. Commemorations and art projects deal with history, while top-class sporting events will delight spectators. Among other things, a number of important concerts will take place in the Frauenkirche, the Kreuzkirche and the Kulturpalast on the 275th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death.
