Massive train cancellations in Dresden: replacement buses to Prague instead of Eurocity!

Starting next Sunday, international train traffic between Dresden and Prague will be a challenge for two weeks. Deutsche Bahn has announced that extensive construction work will be carried out between Bad Schandau and Schöna and will last until November 8th. Travelers are therefore asked to adjust their plans accordingly as they will have to get off the Eurocity train and transfer to replacement buses. This limited connection may require some adjustments as the replacement buses do not stop in Bad Schandau and Děčín, as MDR reports.

The construction work also has an impact on regional traffic. Only the national park line U28 runs between Bad Schandau and Schöna. In the following two weeks, replacement buses will also be used temporarily between Rathmannsdorf and Děčín. However, travelers have the option of reaching Schönau by ferry from Hřensko or visiting Krippen by regional bus. The construction project itself includes the renovation of the route in the Elbe valley, the use of construction switches and the reconstruction of the railway embankment.

Massive restrictions also on the Saxony mainline

Just in time for this construction work, there are also massive restrictions on the Saxony mainline between Dresden and Hof. Between Tuesday and Saturday, the RE3 and RB30 trains between Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Mosel/Zwickau Hauptbahnhof will also be replaced by buses. The reason for these measures is once again the construction work of Deutsche Bahn, which is sine qua non not only regionally but also nationally. In addition to the regional traffic already mentioned, timetable deviations are also expected in the section between Chemnitz and Wüstenbrand and between Dresden and Tharandt until December 12th.

But Deutsche Bahn has taken precautions: the train travel times have been adjusted to ensure connections between the replacement buses and the regular connections. In addition, from November 7th to 17th, the Intercity trains on the Chemnitz – Rostock line have the special feature that they will be redirected via Döbeln and Riesa without stopping. There will also be no stops in Dresden during this period.
