Art highlights in Dresden: OSTRALE Biennale Never Gray” starts!

On Friday, June 7th, the international Dresden exhibition of contemporary art, the OSTRALE Biennale, opens its doors. This thirtieth edition is presented under the title “Never Grey” in the popular robotron canteen. Radio Dresden announces that the motto of the exhibition, “Those who think in black and white, are afraid of nuances,” was created by Jürgen Wilbert. The chairwoman of the Art and Music Foundation for Dresden, Martina de Maizière, is full of joy about the return of the Biennale to this familiar setting.

The opening will be celebrated at 7 p.m. with a special performance by Zorka Wollny, which will transform the area into a lively resonance space. This creative opening campaign marks the start of an exhibition that is permeated by social issues. Topics such as war, identity, consumer behavior and the treatment of nature are the focus of the curators.

Artistic discussions

The outstanding works include an impressive work by Guy Goldstein: his towers made of wine bottle caps address pressing social problems such as threat, control and greed. This artistic perspective is part of OSTRALE, which aims to attract visitors every day from Thursday to Sunday from June 7th to October 5th, 2025.

But OSTRALE is not limited to just one location. In addition to the robotron canteen, events also take place at other locations that aim to promote and present contemporary art. The OSTRALE Center for Contemporary Art, new at Rethelstrasse 45, will play an important role as workshops, studios and exhibition spaces. Ostrale.de provides information about planned interactive installations that will make it easier for people with special needs to access art.

A colorful supporting program

The 36th edition of the Dresden Film Festival, which will take place on April 21, 2024 at OSTRALE.Basis, also promises exciting insights into the world of art and entertainment. The children's film afternoon entitled “HAND IN HAND” will offer exciting films for the younger generation.

In addition, new exhibitions such as “StadtLANDschaf(f)ten” and “REAL FRIENDS vol. 2” will start in December 2023, while OSTRALE is establishing a connection to the European Capital of Culture 2022 in Lithuania with the “Flowing Connections” project, where an interdisciplinary network is being created.

The OSTRALE Biennale not only wants to show contemporary art, but also offer a space for communication and exchange. It supports artists and provides valuable impulses for a dynamic art scene. Given the ever-growing importance of contemporary art, OSTRALE remains a fixture in Saxon culture.

The Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art brings the conversation into the conversation in a completely different direction. Axel Wieder was recently appointed as the new director. On August 1, 2024, he will succeed Gabriele Horn, who has directed the Biennale since 2002. Under Wider's leadership, the upcoming 13th Berlin Biennale, curated by Zasha Colah, will take place from June to September 2025, with Wieder focusing on questions of political representation while demonstrating how vibrant and important the art field is. Berlin Biennale With Wieder, we have a director who is rooted in the international art scene and will open up new perspectives.
